are killing me!!!!! Thought that the rain we had would help with the pollen, but nnnnnooooo, or either there's something else out there. Wonder if the oak trees are blooming. They usually give me more problems than anything else. Medicine run after work!

This has been the worst winter. Sinus issues since thanksgiving.

I'm with you Bagweaver!! I have never had so many sinus infections in the past 10 years as I have in the past 6 months!!

I might have to try the Claritin but I thought that was more for allergies than sinuses?

I take a generic Zyrtek, Citerizine (sp?) from Sam's club, one bottle $20, last the whole year.

Then on days that the sinus issue get bad, go buy a behind the counter wal-mart decongestant to get me through.

Country Gal, the allergies may be what is causing the sinus issue.

Aren't they all connected anyways?

That's why you have to make sure to get the "D" stuff - the stuff with Pseudoephedrine...it's a nasal/sinus decongestant.

fwiw - I've had one sinus infection so far this year and the z-pac zapped that away!

I would not think that allergies would be a big issue in the frozen tundra where you live.

They could all be connected but I know my sinuses are jacked up. I've had 2 MRI's on my head and my doctor said my sinus cavities are all crazy (on a good note, my head wasn't just empty space!! lol) and need to have sinus surgery. I've heard to many horror stories about the surgery and majority of the people that I know who have had it said it didn't work anyway.

Well I will be buying some Claritin at lunch today to see if it helps. I've had a sinus infection for almost a month now and can't get rid of it. Granted, if I would just go to the doctor I'm sure they'd give me a wonder drug but I hate going to the doctor!!

Make sure you get the stuff with the "D" in it! Around here they keep it behind the counter so you might have to ask.

And if you have an infection, I'm thinking Claritin won't help; only antibiotics, no? I'm telling you - Z Pac - it's five pills and you start to feel better after day 1. And it's cheap.

Well I will try Claritin D first and if that doesn't help then I'll bite the bullet and go to the doctor. Our insurance sucks so by the time I do to the doctor and buy antibiotics, I'll be paying a lot more than what the Claritin D will probably cost me. Growing up, my parents never took us to the doctor so I've always just kind of dealt with being sick and letting it run it's course. I do the same with my kids unless they are miserable. However, after a month of dealing with this I may just have to go! Ugh!

I use the Wal Mart brand allery relief Dipenhydramine HCI 25mg. Seems to work wonders for me and it is very inexpensive for a bottle of 100 tablets.

most folks need antibiotics to fully get over sinus infections...

I can't take anything with a "D" in it - makes my blood pressure go thru the roof. I take generic zyrtec every night. Have some flonase that I use when life gets really stuffy. Snorting up some warm salty water will also aid in clearing out your sinuses.

Had my sinuses cleard out four years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. before, I woudl get about 4 or 5 sinus infections a year. Now I may get one.

Since the surgery I have had two sinus infections.

The best thing for me is whenever the polins or other Irritants are around, is to flush the sinus at night with a saline spray.

sick amazing how much "junk" flushes out.

I got rid of those along with my tonsils at the ripe old age of 5!

On a different note - if you suffer from acid reflux then you will have constant sinus infections/bronchitus, etc.... I used to stay sick from Thanksgiving thru spring. No issues since i had the reflux fixed.

If you've got an infection, only an antibiotic will clear that up, unfortunately. Z-pac is the best. FWIW, go to the doctor and then starting taking the daily stuff. This is my 3rd infection in 6 months. Never been this bad. I may call to see if my doc will call the Z-pac in so I don't have to take time off work.
