We have patio doors that have an attraction for our cat. Likes the challenge of ripping out a corner so he has free access. We want to replace the screen this year (again) but, first, I wanted to know if anyone has the same problem and whether or not the 'pet screen " material is as good as the claims.

Comments welcome.....and, no, I will not drop him off in front of the local zoo during feeding time. That is not an acceptable solution.

Great thread and I would be interested in comments also. I have a Rott that likes to "knock" by running his paw down the door to let you know he is interested in comingling with the family at this time.

I solved that problem by taking a screen off an old storm door and putting it between the glass slider door and the screen door. A bit inconvenient to pull it out of the way to go in and out, but we don't use that door very often.

Use metal screens instead of nylon. My nylon screens got shredded, the metals are still going strong!

Those "pet screens" that have the magnets in the As Seen on TV section look promising, but my main concern is that they do not seal at the bottom of the door. Critters and bugs look like they could just mosey on into my house under the screen.

I drop the window from the top so my kitty can't get to the screen but he is also declawed and lazy and scared of grass so i'm pretty safe.

I thought this thread was about the latest Eddie Murphy film.

Electrified screens work great, and they double as a bug zapper! smile

You could try something like this in front of the screen:

I had a problem with my dogs trying to get through the screens on my bay window and used an alarm with a vibration sensor (also thru Fosters and Smith). It worked wonders, so the screens are being replaced next week.

Or I;ve seen the pet doors that you install on the screen. The fram clamps onto either side of the screen, then you cut out the screen from the middle, and it has a flapper door.

I am not a big fan of the pet door. I can see other pets coming into the house, uninvited. I can also see flying and crawling things, too, esp. with the mild winter that we had. Flying things have been sited already, darn it!

I'm going to a couple hardware places this weekend to see what they have/recommend. I got some good tips here, esp. about using different screen materials.

I'll keep you posted.
