Hi. We got tired of paying $200. per month for cable and internet. So, we took the plunge to go back to the very basic cable offering. Now, I know i can access missed shows, from CBS, ABC, etc, on the internet....however, I loved shows on TNT...but not enough to pay close to a hundred more to see them.

Is there a way we could subscribe (we would pay a nominal amount) to watch a couple shows coming up this summer?

I don't know much about this HULU service, although I love the ads. Is HULU the way to go??

Anyone more savvy than we are (which is just about one step up from the Flintstone era) and that can help with this, I appreciate it. (Yes, I know we can rent episodes after the season, but we don't really want to wait that long)...

HULU? Do you have to jump through hoops to get that? Never heard of it!

Somewhere in the middle
I ahve been watching a lot of HULU lately, and haven't been charged or had to subscribe to anything.

Grant it, I have been searching OLD stuff, not sure if it cost to watch the more recent shows.

Isn't this something you should be asking your cable provider? Since there are many cable providers across the country, what mine offers versus what is available to you are likely very different. You can also explore satellite providers.

Happy, I do not think that someone who provides her with a satellite would be of much help. She would need to contact someone who provides the programing. smirk laugh

I got rid of cable in January. I don't even have local channels.

If I want to watch something, I have a subscription to Netflix for the instant watch thing for $8/mo. I also have Hulu+ for $8/mo. That gives me current shows, usually the next day or within a few days. Hulu itself is free, but the selection is much more limited. Hulu+ has been great for me.

So far, I don't miss cable. I'm finding that most of the programs "I couldn't miss" are ones I don't even think of anymore. I've watched older shows that I vaguely remember hearing about but never watched first run.

I LOVE Hulu! You can watch many new shows on Hulu for free within a day or 2 after they air on TV. You do not have to register; however, if you want to be notified when something is available, you do need an account. The account will set up your queue (newly available shows that you have favorited). Registration is free. Many shows are only available for free for a specified amount of time. To watch archived shows and some new shows, you have to subscribe to Hulu Plus which does have a cost. I do not use Hulu Plus, but I'm sure it is similar to having a Netflix subscription.

Also it is not difficult to use. Just go to www.hulu.com and search the show you want to watch. It will tell you if it is available, and if not, when it will be available.

I've been thinking about ditching my satelite subscription and getting a Roku. For a one-time expense you can watch a bunch of different channels for free. Does anyone have one?

I LOVE my Roku. We mainly use it for Netflix streaming to our TV, so I can't much attest to it's other features, but simply for that it is awesome!

I have $5 cable (used to be free!) that comes as an add-on to my internet. It really just gives me local channels, WGN, Fox, then a bunch of junky shopping type channels and CSPAN 1/2. It's worth it for the channels between 2-10 alone, 11-24 I never look at.

pssst, buy the generic ones, then you can get the best of both worlds

besides, I'm sure the generic ones have just as much rodent feces as the name brand

Does Hulu come through the Wii like Net Flix or do you have to hook up your PC to your TV?

I don't have the Roku, but some friends just got one, and while they don't watch a lot of TV, they LOVE it.
