My son and i are possibly going to Morrison, Colorado in July for a concert (not definite yet, but i'm leaning strongly that way). I think it will be at most a 3 day trip. Any must-sees or must-do's while we're in the Denver area?

Top of the world... and never ...
I love the trip out to Boulder from Denver... there is very good hiking in the Boulder area if you are into that sort of thing.

Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak are also cool.

I don't live there, but love my visits.

The Denver Broncos Stadium and headquarters. Pick me up a Manning jersey while you're there, please. wink

I go to Denver relatively often (every couple years or so). I used to drive up to Central City just for the drive and to relax up in the mountains, but it's become a mini-Vegas, so I haven't been in some time.

Last time, I went to Boulder for my cousin's basketball state championship game at Colorado University. Just driving around out there was amazing for me.

Lots of museums there. My aunt used to talk about incredible classical concerts downtown somewhere. She saw and met Yo Yo Ma (sp) at one such event.

I went to Colorado Springs for my honeymoon, and I'm glad I did. Garden of the Gods was a great site to check out, as was the US Air Force Academy. Both of them cost nothing to visit.

Possibly a dumb-ish question: my ears stop up, pop really bad when i'm in airplane.....might that be a problem in Denver? (Not flying there.....gonna drive.)

Anywhere I want to be
That shouldn't be since your slowly getting acclimated during your drive.

Be cautious about taking soft drinks or bags of snacks from low altitude into the mountains. I took several bags of a local brand of potato chips to a friend out there when I drove out. I was not even in the higher mountains when the bags started expanding and popping because of the altitude - first one made me think I had blown a tire! We were told not to open any cans or bottles of soda that were bottled at lower altitude as they could possibly spray everywhere with the change in pressure.

When going up Pike's Peak, we had to stop half way up and crack the gas cap of the car and let some of the pressure out of the tank to avoid mechanical issues.

It's beautiful country. I was quite a ways south of Denver, closer to Pueblo most of the time, but we did venture up to Denver a couple of times.

Middleswarth Chips are apparently addicting and you can't get them in the stores out west. After the first bag popped, I checked the others and they were like ballons. It was a really funny thing to see as I didn't even realize we had gone up in altitude that much, the Rockies were still in the far distance at the time.

What kinda temps (particularly nighttime temps) are we talking for Denver in late July? Is it still cool in the evenings? The last major trip i took was to Portland, Maine. We flew out in late June and of course, it was 105 here, so i'm dressed in shorts and a t-shirt.....we get off the plane in Portland and it's 48 degrees....brr.

If you have dry skin at all, take plenty of lotion. And don't be surprised if you wake up with a bloody nose the first morning. Very common.

Don't know how old your son is, but if he's younger, then I recommend the Littleton History Museum. It's a working farm from the 1800s and lots of farm animals to see up close.

Also, you should consider driving to Echo Lake and make the drive up the Mt. Evans road to the top. It's the easiest way to get to over 14 thousand feet and it's much closer than Pikes Peak.

While you're at Echo Lake, you may also want to go to Georgetown (on I-70) and ride the loop railroad.

I live about 3 hours south of Denver. Temps in the summer are usually pretty warm during the day but evenings can cool down a bit, so I would suggest taking a light jacket.

I wouldn't be much help as far as sight seeing though, because I just don't like going to Denver much ... way too overcrowded for me. I love Colorado Springs though.

Besides the natural beauty of Colorado, one of the most interesting things I saw while I was there was Bishop Castle. It's about 3 hours south of Denver and is a castle that was built by a rather..... well, let's just say, unique guy. It has been almost 20 years since I have been there, I'm sure that the castle is quite a bit bigger now.
