We are in the process of assigning NAICS codes for CTR reporting and have found codes for some businesses on Manta. Does anyone know where these codes come from and if our codes are required or recommended to match theirs? Are you using Manta codes or assigning your own? We have one customer whose Manta code does not accurately describe their business.

I look up codes on naics.com There is info about the coding system (North American Industry Classification System) on the census page. Google "naics" and the census page is first. The naics.com page has a free look-up though. We match our commercial customers to their tax returns, too. (We still look 'em up.)

Read the post that I linked. Standard NAICS codes are not going to work. FinCEN is only going to recognize a limited number of codes.

We use the NAICS codes for our business accounts as obtained from naics.com. While we realize the codes won't work for FinCEN, it provides a good field of information to extract reports with for marketing and penetration purposes.
