So, I bought my first crockpot, ever. Today I am making sausage and peppers.

Does anyone have any good healthy crockpot recipes (no canned soups) that they would share?

Pork butt. add apple cider vinegar, molasses, liquid smoke.

Cut the pork into chunks and rub with favorite bbq rub.

cook for about 10 hours, or until pork is falling apart.

Actually, I'm not sure that's healthy, but it's pretty good.

Thanks AG, I've read through a lot of those recipes, looking for tried and true, low sodium.

Thanks, SW.

It's like deja vu all over again. Kind of like when you go on a bender and get woken up by a phone call and you think it's the next morning but it's actually 7 p.m. on the same day you started.

I do simple stuff in mine:

Pork filet, top w/sourkraut and maybe some apples; cook while you're at work.

Beef roast, chunks of taters, throw in some carrots, celery and onion; cook while @ work.

We do the second one fairly often. Really good on a cold winter's day. I'll have to try the second. The combination of sauerkraut and apples sounds like it could be really good.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
I rather like chicken breasts with apples and raisins. Although this only takes about 4 hours - so better when you can be home to turn off the crock pot. The flavors from the cooked apples and raisins just add something to the chicken and make an excellent side dish for the chicken breast - add salad - meal.

Deek - does yours have a timer?

That could help avoid the problem walden describes.

One of my families favorites:
Any kind of meat (particularly good with chicken breast or pork chops)
Fresh cranberries put through the blender
sliced sweet apples
big diced onions
a little water
low all day
serve over rice or egg noodles

Navy Beans, a can of tomatoes with garlic and basil, italian sausage, veggie broth, and extra garlic and basil! (Actually pretty healthy if you don't use a ton of the sausage like I do, or use turkey sausage).

Pork Loin with fat trimmed, Black Beans (or pinto beans), Rotel tomatoes, fajita seasonings, and veggie broth. Serve this one as a burrito if you'd like smile

The apples take the tartness out of the kraut. Personally, I like kraut as it is. You can add some onion also.

Welcome to the 20th century Deek. smile I guess I shouldn't talk. I have a crock pot that rarely sees the light of day. I just think it makes too much food for me since I live by myself and can only stand so many leftovers. Do these recipes have to be for a full pot or can you cut them down? If you do so do they cook as well?

I like to do spare ribs with sauerkraut in the crockpot. I brown the ribs first and then put them in the crockpot with sauerkraut, beer and a little brown sugar. Sometimes I will peel and cube potatoes and put those on top.

I think you need to have the crock at least half full in order for it to work effectively. Most of these recipes sound like they would freeze well.

Chillin an grillin
Shredded beef tacos.

Beef roast, can of diced tomatoes, onion, package of fajita seasoning.

I always use a very lean roast and make sure it's trimmed up.

Have lots of fun toppings for a little taco bar. smile
