My husband and I got into quite the discussion about the spelling of this and he could just not understand how that is "kernel" when there isn't even an R in it! It was actually quite funny. He also had trouble with the word "cupboard". He didn't realize it was "cubberd" and was reading to our daughter and said cup board (as in old mother hubbard went to the cupboard) and I said she went where? and he said cup board - that's what is says. And I said that is pronounced cubberd and he said no it says cup board. Again discussion followed about spelling and pronunciation. Really amuses me!

I have to pronounce it so deliberately, I find it just easier to say, 'I have a question for you...'

I have a feeling I'd have trouble with that one too. Luckily I can't think of the last time I had to use it.

Where I'm from (down yonder), this is actually the proper pron...pronoun...pronunci...way of saying it.

My mother "axes" people all the time. She gets so mad when we tease her.

on the opposite side of this thread (and much like the "ax" you a question), it drives me crazy when people say "conversate."

You don't conversate with people, you converse with them and you have a conversation.

We used to have a lady come in and review all the checks that cleared her account to verify it was her "signator" on each check. Then she would try to dispute the ones where she felt obligated to pay but wasn't happy with the service (water, electric company, IRS...). But she was amusing with new nails and hair every week, that I really didn't mind too much.

I'm always amused when people come in and want to make a deposit into their "checkings account". How is it plural? Because you have more than one check?

My husband pronounces the word "crayons" like "crowns." Drives me crazy. Thankfully, our son is now old enough that we don't use the word much anymore!

or customers asking about their 'financial monies'...

or asking about the "debicks" and "credicks" on their account, not debits and credits...

or my employee years ago that called in sick because she had "loose vowels..."
