They pulled that on me too (although I stayed at the Swan). They insisted it was on everything they gave me, including their website. I pulled out copies of my confirmation, and their website (it wasn't on there of course), and let them know that it was offered to me as an option, which I declined, when I checked in. I got them to refund half of the fees anyway.

You are here
Did anyone let the ABA know about it so they can choose another hotel to recommend?

Yes I did in my end of conference survey. The hotel personnel I spoke with was not budging on the $10/day fee nor do I recall being told up-front about it!!!! I thought it was definitely unfair to pay this without being given the choice!!! It was an automatic $10/day for 2 bottles of water, WiFi (which was free in the lobby) and use of the fitness center - which I'm sure 99% of the 1,000+ attendees did not use. At $10/day x 4 nights x 1,000 attendees (which I think there were more than that), the hotel (or resort) earned a whopping $40,000 for WATER!!!!

Talk about UDAAP!!!! It's stinks that the banking industry gets hit hard with regs that limit us while the travel industry (airlines, hotels, etc.) just keep adding on the fees!!!

$10 is actually quite cheap for a resort fee.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
I believe when I checked in, they told me it had been negotiated down to $10! The ABA included it in their materials when they talked about the room fee - the $10 was included.
