I'm sure most of you have seen/heard of the grandmother who works as a Bus Driver/monitor to supplement her SS income. This article just goes to show how much good the internet can do. While that amount of money seems excessive to me, the fact that so many people connected with this woman's plight and donated to this fund.. just WOW. Bullied Bus Driver Fundraiser

yes, it is excessive, and I expect now she is to be considered wealthy and therefore shunned by society...

I just don't get it. It was her job to monitor the kids, wasn't it? She obviously failed, and now people give her money?

I just don't get it. It was her job to monitor the kids, wasn't it? She obviously failed, and now people give her money? I watched the video. It wasn't just name calling. At one point the boys started talking about cutting her and stabbing her with a knife. One said he would deficate in her mouth, and another said her would do something else in her mouth (basically sexually harrassing her). It was terrible. While I think that the amount of money is very high, I don't think she failed at her job. Honestly, there wasn't much she could do to defend herself without being the subject of lawsuits by parents.

Sure she could. She could looked at the children and said, congratulations, you've just messed with an adult who is not afraid of you. She could have immediately had the bus driver pull over and escorted the children off the bus in to the hands of police officers who could have been dispatched. My sister was a bus driver, and I can tell you that the protocol for kids out of control on the bus is exactly that. Let the PARENTS deal with the fallout with the police department, and the fallout from the children no longer having busing provided if they are going to act that way. Instead, she allowed CHILDREN to bully her.

and how sad is the commentary that people on this board are blaming her for "allowing" these kids to do this to her...maybe the kids who weren't harassing her are just as much to blame, for filming it instead of intervening...of course, it is easy to criticise from the comfort and safety of some remote PC...
Maybe she did exactly what her position was, to "monitor the behavior of the kids." And she then reported it to the school officials at the end of her day, again, maybe just as she has been instructed to do. And the school system stepped in and disciplined the kids.
Nah, it's much easier just to blame her...

Also I think the thing to realize here is that she didn't ask anyone to give her money. Some guy in Canada saw the video on youtube, then set up a fundraiser to send her on a dream vacation, because he felt bad for her. I didn't see anywhere where she asked for the money. And seeing as how people gave upwards of 600m to the fundraiser, I definitely don't think she is to blame for being bullied.

And that is why I posted the Article. Because it's nice to see the internet being used to do good. She didn't ask for this, any of it, the good or the bad. And I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that a portion of that 600K will be going to charity. If it weren't for the internet, there's no way to know how this would have gone down, if the school would have believed her. I have a feeling that because of how nasty these children got, this couldn't have been the first time.
