Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah!!!
It’s that time again.
The NCAA 2012-2013 football season is exactly five (5) weeks away.
I know. I know. Everyone’s excited; not only about the start of the season, but mostly because y’all are in awe of my prognostication prowess, as over the previous three (3) seasons I’ve predicted my Alabama Crimson Tide team would win the National Championship and for two (2) out of the three (3) years I’ve been correct.
The one (1) time I was wrong mistaken, it was STILL a team (which will remain nameless) from which state?
Oh, yeah, that’d be the great state of Alabama. (In my best Elvis voice, "Thank you. Thank you, very much. Un-huh!")
Jealous much?? Don’t be a hater, now!
Okay, so back to the original topic: This season’s BCS National Championship Game will be in Miami, Florida, on January 7th, 2013.
So, I have just two (2) words for y’all: RE PEAT (we can talk about three-peat next year)
So, obviously, I’m selecting my ’Bama Boys to defend their title.
Which pathetic loser of a “team” are you picking??? USC? Wisconsin? Boise State? Notre Dame? OU? Clemson? Rutgers?
PUH-LEASE!!!
Even if your whiny, cry-baby team makes it to the NCG, they'll stand NO CHANCE against the mighty Crimson Tide!
If you pick another SEC club, you might possibly have a very slim chance…but don’t bet on it!
Alright, no more trash talkin’ – I’ve once again set up two (2) Yahoo! Football Pick'em Challenge groups.
The first one is for beginners and novices.
It’s called NDB I (Group ID# 448 without the spread).
The second one is for experts and fanatics.
It’s designated as NDB II (Group ID# 449 with the spread).
The website to join (one, or better yet, both groups) is: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/college/register/joingroup
And, the password (for both groups) is: Miami (with upper & lower case letters).
You veterans know what to do, so just "Git ’er done!"
For all y’all rookies & newbies, here’s the scoop:
Each week Yahoo! will give you the chance to predict the winners of the AP Top 25 games. That’s all there is to it. Sounds easy enough, right? WRONG! Not only do you have to select the winners, but you have to decide how strongly you feel about their chances. You will use Confidence Points to accomplish this objective.
For example, if the #1 team, Never Loses University (“NLU”), is playing an unranked, Loserville College (“LC”), you might place the maximum points* on NLU. On the other hand, you just may believe that LC will pull off the upset, but you’re not totally sure. In that case, maybe you only put 1 or 2 points on the game.
That’s for the NDB I group.
Then, for NDB II, we utilize an additional factor…the spread (AKA “the line”). So, in this 2nd group, you’ll not only have to place confidence points, but you’ll also have to select the winner based on what the odds-makers predict. (Don’t panic. There’s no money involved. This is all just for fun & pride).
For example, if #1, NLU is favored to beat LC by 21.5, you determine your confidence points by deciding how strongly you feel about the likely end-result of the game. If you think NLU will beat LC by MORE THAN 21.5 points (i.e. 22 points or more), you’d “bet” on NLU. If, however, you think LC will be within 22 points of NLU (i.e. NLU wins, but by LESS THAN 21.5 points)…or if you believe LC will win outright, you’d put your points on LC. (One other note: if the line is, let's say, 21, and NLU wins by exactly 21, this is called a "push" and NO POINTS ARE GAINED & Vegas keeps the cash.)
Bottom line: The stronger you feel about a particular outcome, the greater number of points you should use.
As the last week usually has a very low possible point total, we’ll drop the two lowest scores during the season (this gives you an additional "off" week: vacation, forget to make your selections or you just totally blow it).
Anyway, sign up (and invite others, too) and let’s get this football season going. When you sign up, if you’re not using your actual name for your "Pick Set Name," please post a message as to who you are & why you selected your particular name. Also, if you have any questions or need anything, contact me at home (liberaldemise@tx.rr.com) or work (mike.cockrell@ndbt.com).
* varies from week to week depending on the number of Top 25 games
-Mike (AKA Dallas Tide and/or Liberal Demise)
PS - Good Luck! (Both you AND your team are gonna need it!)

Can anyone think of any other Heisman candidate who is dismissed from the team the next year? I know most are seniors and exiting juniors but still. What a waste of an amazing opportunity.
