I was told a customer made a $10,000 cash withdrawal and then went into the safe deposit booth and took pictures of the cash. Is this strange enought to file a SAR? He then came back and deposited the cash back into this account.

Maybe he is buying a house and someone told him he needed proof of having the down payment smile

You all missed it. Like me, Florida Babe is in Florida. That explains everything. Nothing suspicious about that kind of activity in Florida. If they take the cash and ask to use your color copier, then you might get suspicious. grin

Hmmm, he wants "proof" of something. He wants to show someone that he has cash in a safe deposit box? He wants to show you that he used to have cash in his safe deposit box, but someday he will say that it's missing? He's just pathetic and has nothing to do with his time?

Is there any basis for believing a law has been or is about to be broken is the easiest question to answer: No.

Yes, he thinks these photos prove something, but at this stage of what he is doing I do not see a SAR.

This reminds me of the Regis and Kelly TD Bank ads featuring a woman visiting her bank to "see her money" behind a small bullet-proof glass window.

No, but you...you...you're thinking of this place all wrong. As if I had the money back in a safe. The, the money's not here. Well, your money's in Joe's house...that's right next to yours. And in the Kennedy House, and Mrs. Macklin's house, and, and a hundred others.

Great movie - and I saw it for the first time the year before last. Should have watched it earlier.

Well, I don't know what to make of this. I don't think there is anything illegal by taking a picture. His company is a marketing company. Almost makes me think he might use it for marketing? I just don't know. We get all sorts of nut cases here. I hope I gave you something to chuckle about.

This reminded me of a recent lawsuit involving comic artist Matthew Inman. I double-checked the article though, and it wasn't him (amount was wrong & the pictures look to be in his home). He used the money to send a message to a lawyer who was suing him. Maybe your customer was doing something similar? Did he try to spell anything with the money?

No. What kills me is that the teller saw this and nobody said anything to him. She was just walking by the safe deposit area and saw him pull the camera and take pictures of he cash she just gave him. He wasn't hiding or antyhing.
I would've asked "Dude! what are you doing?"
