Or these from Sheldon:

Well, that's some salty language. May I remind you that you're the president of a major university, not president of the Potty Mouth Club. There it is again. Do you kiss your mother with that mouth? Oh, I'm sorry for your loss. Good night, sir.

All you have to do, TJ, is call and question why long-time customers, such as yourself, don't get a special deal. Why do NEW customers get discounts. Existing customers are the people who deserve a better deal. I did that a few months ago. I now have On Demand free, 120 channels, all movie channel, and pay $150.00 a month. We have 3 receivers, but only 1 has DVR.

I did that last year. I fought and yelled at the woman on the phone (who yelled back at me) for over 30 minutes and she agreed to "Rebundle" me, keep my rate basically the same for a year, give me more channels, blah, blah, blah. When I went to the local office to pick up the receiver, I was explaing the deal I had hammered out with the lady on the phone and after I explained it she said "Yeah, that's the existing customer loyalty bundle. We do that all the time." Then a week later they took away half my channels mad

thomas - I have seariously thought about going with DirectTV; however I would have to keep Insight (our cable company) for our Internet service. I'm probably going to up my cell phone minutes and get rid of our house phone, too. Our bill right now is about $165 per month with one DVR, Internet and phone.

<<---does not have a home phone...and does not miss it At. All.

<<---also has a Walmart phone and is fine with it at $45.00/month.

Dish...well...it's better than the cable company.

Internet - AT & T which BITES!

The biggest problem I would have is getting decent internet. The only thing that would compare around here is Verizon DSL and I have heard nightmares about that. I would then need to do some sort of dish - and with the snow in the winter time combined with the fact that we have like 6 TV's would probably be a deal breaker.

We have very, very basic Dish at our cabin. I called them, told them I was going to switch to Direct or FIOS or a local cable company, and they reduced my bill about $20 each month.

That episode came up for discussion yesterday while at a football game get-together.
One guy said he didn't like Sheldon because he's so narcisstic.
I've never thought of him as that.
Just geeky to the point of being oblivious to any societal norms...kind of aspberger-esque.
It wasn't easy to listen to this person dun Sheldon. frown

knock, knock, knock, Penny would be my t-shirt choice. smile

I'm in total agreement with you Truff. To him what is - is and he can't see otherwise or understand 'feelings'.

How is lacking in societal norms equal to being a geek? The character is very poorly socialized, he is scary. I guess there are worse character flaws.

Not equal to, Pale. He's so absorbed in all things geeky that he has blinders on to the way the world around him acts or reacts. Look up aspberger syndrome, which by the way is being eliminated from the Med diagnoses book. It describes difficulty interacting socially. That's how I see Sheldon. Definitely not narcissistic which means full of self and taking advantage of others, etc. I don't think Sheldon has a truly mean bone in his body. He's just immune to the world.

The word geek is a slang term for odd or non-mainstream people, with different connotations ranging from "a computer expert or enthusiast" to "a person heavily interested in a hobby", with a general pejorative meaning of "a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp[ecially] one who is perceived to be overly intellectual".[1]

I think you could work that in there somehow. smile

True. But I live in a college town with a huge scienticfic community, so I know the type that his character was patterned after. wink

That's why this whole discussion yesterday was kinda funny. There were a fair amount of pots calling the Sheldon kettle black. crazy

I'm amazed by your lack of social graces!

Actually - Bernadette summed up Sheldon quite brilliantly in one episode when she told Howard:

Quote:
Sheldon doesn't know when he's being mean because the part of his brain that should know is getting a wedgie from the rest of his brain

My brother is Sheldon - so I oughta know!

(And just like Leonard, I played the Cello in Jr. High and High School.)
