I'm tryin gto decide how to dress for the end of the world on Wednesday. I kind of want to go with some jeans and an old pair of running shoes, but how embarassing if everyone else shows up for Doomsday in a coat and tie! Your thoughts?

After 34 years in the biz I guess I will finally be getting some time off at year end. Thank you Aztecs. Never had it before since I'm in the lending ops area. Bring it on. There will be food, right?

Okie, it's the Mayans. Not the Aztecs... All the news reports are saying "the non existent Mayans" or refer to them as if they don't exist anymore. There are lots of Mayan descendants still. Some of them still live in the traditional Mayan way. But that wouldn't make the news stories more interesting if they reported it that way, would it?

http://www.mayacopan.info/ingles-8-mayas-today.htm#1As you have already learned, the Mayas are still very much alive! More than six million Maya people live in Central America, mostly in Guatemala and México, but also in Belize, El Salvador and Honduras. The Mayas never disappeared. A lot of ancient Maya cities were abandoned, but that doesn't mean the Mayas ceased to exist. They simply moved to other places. The Spanish conquerors tried to erase Maya culture, but never succeeded. Many Mayas fled away from the conquerors while others changed their habits in a way they could live in relative harmony with them. The Mayas today are divided in many different tribes. Each tribe has its own customs and traditions and sometimes even its own language. In Guatemala more than twenty Maya languages are spoken. Although Spanish is the official language of Guatemala, some of the indigenous people only speak their Maya language! A lot of the Mayas still wear their traditional dress and maintain their ancient religious traditions or use natural medicines the way they have for hundreds of years. Other Mayas dress in modern cloths and live in apartment buildings in the cities. But that doesn't make them less Maya!
