The NHL playoffs begin tonight - who's your pick? The team matchups are:

West

Detroit / Nashville
San Jose / St. Louis
Calgary / Vancouver
Dallas / Colorado

East

Tampa Bay / NY Islanders
Montreal / Boston
New Jersey / Philadelphia
Toronto / Ottawa

I say Detroit in the West vs. New Jersey in the East. Detroit takes the cup in 6.

The Boston "Gahden"
Boston and Detroit for the Stanley Cup. It would be nice to have two of the originals in the finals. Give it to Detroit.

Ok, 9-year season ticket holder for San Jose, here... Gotta back my guys. Let's Go Sharks! Over the Blues in 5. We're just taking one series at a time. We'll worry about our opponent from the East when we get there.

Game 1 v. St Louis will be on ESPN Thursday at 7pm Pacific time. I know, that's past bedtime for most people on the East Coast. You don't know what you're missing! (But then again, the Eastern games all start before I get home from work...)

For those of you who will be watching, you'll love Jonathan Cheechoo, #14. The guy weebles and wobbles, but doesn't fall down! And usually ends up scoring at the end of it.

Played? I used to skate down the street to an outdoor rink near my house. I was too little to care about the damage it caused my blades. I will put in another plug for "Miracle". Great sports flick.

Don't think so. Everyone knows you "can't win with Cujo".

Miracle disappointed me - but I loved Mystery Alaska!

Loved that too. I was a senior in high school in 1980. I think that made the difference for me.

RandomName - Yes, surprisingly. It is televised, too, and apparently some people WATCH it. Imagine soccer on ice, except that the offsides rule is less socialist.

The goal nets are smaller than in soccer, too, but surprisingly they manage to score more...

Agreed. That's why Manny Legace is such a bargain at $1 million a year.

I'll admit I was a little torn last night after Nashville scored the first goal 16 seconds in. Before we moved last summer, our neighbors across the street were Adam Hall's parents. Makes it tough to know who to root for...

You must be an alumnus of Denver, Minnesota-Deluth, or maybe even Maine, because I can't imagine CubDave had the SAT scores to be a BC grad! Plus, if you had gone to BC you'd be in the Boardroom, not the BOL room.

Other differences include the violence. In hockey it is primarily by the players, not the fans.
In addition, television viewers of hockey are not in danger of falling asleep and landing face first in their bean dip.

Not all Eagle Alumni are in the Boardroom, although my office is across from the Boardroom. Does that count?

That's close enough to the Boardroom, CelticsPride; it's just that not many college hockey teams have coaches, as BC does, that demand that players also have SAT scores at least in the 1400 range. Even their Canadian players were smart. They play smartly; they pass the puck smartly; they are smart.

Wow - what an exciting game last night! 0-0 going into OT. We didn't know if we were going to be there until 3:00am waiting for that single goal, or what. I take back my comment about hockey scores being higher than soccer. With two hot goalies in net, nothing was getting through.

Luckily, Niko Dimitrakos (that's a mouthful of a name - Italian mother, Greek father, born and raised outside of Boston, Maine Black Bears alum = very interesting accent) scored 9:16 into the first OT, sending all the Sharks fans home very happy.
