I have a customer who wants to place a stop payment on 2 checks that were issued in December. Both checks are payable to a QuikCash type of place and both have already been presented and returned once for NSF. Now, all of a sudden, the customer wishes to have a stop placed on them, saying that he doesn't want to pay them.

Is there anything that prevents us from placing the stops on these items?

Thanks in advance.

Nothing stops the customer or the bank from placing these stop payments. Collect your stop payment fee and place the stops. This is between the customer and the payday loan place.

The customer has a right to stop payment for any reason and at any time before the items are finally paid or the bank's cutoff time on the day following presentment of the items. The fact that the checks were previously dishonored is irrelevant.
