Postal Service to cut Saturday mail to trim costs snip - WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Postal Service will stop delivering mail on Saturdays but continue to deliver packages six days a week under a plan aimed at saving about $2 billion annually, the financially struggling agency says.
In an announcement scheduled for later Wednesday, the service is expected to say the Saturday mail cutback would begin in August.
The move accentuates one of the agency's strong points — package delivery has increased by 14 percent since 2010, officials say, while the delivery of letters and other mail has declined with the increasing use of email and other Internet services.

Speaking to some postal people I have found that monday has the greatest amount of mail delivered (no suprise). When they stop saturdays delivery and more mail will pile up for monday. They will need to hire additional people for mondays workload (2 billion savings gone).

My USPS guy barely shows up on Saturdays anyway. I can live without Saturday mail.

When I first read this, I thought What? No way!
But then reality hit and I remembered that I barely check my mail once a week. They could go down to one-day-a-week delivery and I'd survive just fine.

Who actually mails/receives schtuff via USPS anyways. Mine is limisted to a few magazines during the month. Lots of junk I have no idea where it comes from. And maybe a piece of actual mail two times per month. More during the holiday and my birthday.

More and more FedEx delivery only goes as far as the local post office. The shipment then sits there for two days before they deliver it. UPS, too. "Smart"Post my foot.

See? Junk mail DOES have its place. It keeps the post office in business. Get rid of junk mail and there would be no need for mail delivery more than about once a week.
I've tried different ways to stop "catalogs" from being delivered, but nothing works. Seems like there ought to be a "do not mail list" just like "do not call."
Most catalogs can't be recycled so they go straight to my trash can.

if they raised to price on no class mail the classless will stop sending it and they would loose more. As per USPO I read (and parafazed) that a few months back.

So maybe someone should poll the public...see what they want. Raise the price on no class mail, and if it goes away, cut delivery back to twice per week. Works for me.

Wonder if the rescission rules will be amended to exclude Saturdays from the count?
Yeah - I'm a Compliance Officer - and that was my FIRST thought!
LOL!!! I had the same thought.
