Happy, I think you made the point nicely. The point was not that she had a chance to win. She had the chance to compete. True, wrestling is not as popular as Basketball or baseball or football, but the Olympics were not created to be a venue just for popularity. They were meant to be a an opportunity for competition, purely for the sake of competition. Not everyone wins, not everyone gets a medal. But they get to try.

Pulling people out of the ditc...
BB1 - While that may have been the goal of the Olympics when started, it is doing what it can to get more people watching and attending, which makes money...it is jettisoning events that have little to no interest from non-traditional fans. Anyone who thinks the olympics today are about competing for the sake of competition is lying to themself.

Perhaps, but some have not been jaded by the almighty dollar. Some compete for the sake of competition, and to simply accept others trying to bastardize something that was started with a higher purpose than lining pockets is to simply give up. So I will complain, along with others. If we do nothing then there is no chance of righting something that is wrong.

Blame women, they watch rhythmic gymnastics, synchro swimming, and ballroom dancing, and they don't watch wrestling. And neither do I, and I'm willing to bet that most people that haven't ever wrestled, don't watch it either. Still, I can't see elimintaing it and keeping things like ping pong, badmitton, and racewalking, which I wouldn't imagine get a lot of viewers.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
Hey! This woman watches wrestling - greco roman wrestling that is - not the saturday nite WWF kind. took my Dad to a match between the US team and the Russian team back in the day. He took one look at the Russian team and said "we're gonna get our butts kicked" and we did.

I prefer to watch the freestyle wrestling myself. Unfortunately this past Olympics, there was very little tv coverage of it. Don't blame it on women!!

If the point is to get people watching, then they should add pole dancing. I'd watch that. I saw a youtube clip of a girl in a pole dancing competition or somethign and the athelticism and tricks were jaw drapping, at least to me.

I'll blame it on the women...ever since they stopped the mud wrestling like that exhibited in Stripes, Olympic coverage of wrestling has gone downhill fast than Lindsay Vonn (with or without skis!)
