I keep my fists in my pockets. Trust them more than mace.
I also have perfected a very primal sounding roar that makes me appear to be very very rabid/crazy.
I've seen Mani with a purse, btw. A real purse, girly and with sparkles and such. I was very confused by it.

I travel to NYC (sometimes worse locations) on a daily basis and never considered bringing Mace.

In Wisconsin if you carry pepper spray/mace there are rules about it requiring a top - it is just a flip up top that protects it from going off when you don't want it to - but it works. I travel alone a lot - my husband gave it to me on our wedding day :-).

Pepper spray in a pretty pink dispenser. (that's in one pocket..the rest is a disaster zone!) Mine is hot pink in a pocket too!!!  Gotta love it!

Looks like mace is the popular item! I'd get some but I would be afraid it would get on my gum, floss, mints and hand sanitizer.  When I first read this I thought it said "I would be afraid it would get on my gun..." And then I thought "Wow, carrying mace and a gun is extra prepared!"

Let's forget the purse and play this game with what is in the pockets of the jeans of my 16 year old. It never ceases to amaze me - and I refuse to touch any of it (mainly because there are always wadded-up kleenex).
Even though he is 6'4", there is still a little boy in him. Guaranty there are some rocks, pencil top erasers, change, maybe a marble, half a pencil, papers, a token from an arcade, and all sorts of miscellaneous things.
That would drive me crazy, but it doesn't phase him at all....

1) it must be big enough for my Kindle, wallet, and gun
2) it must be small enough so that I can still lift it when it is packed full of other cr@p in addition to the Kindle, wallet, and gun.

^^^^perfectly summed up...but you forgot one thing. The tackier, the better! She can fit a saddle in there along with sturips reins and bits. That must be a large purse to hold all that tack.
