A little more than a week after the April 1 heart attack, which led to a minor traffic accident, Langley received the tickets in the mail.

One officer gave him CPR but another wrote tickets
2 tickets dismissed, but third still stands
SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS, N.J. -- Though Dan Langley had a heart attack while driving here, that did not stop a police officer from giving him three traffic tickets.

Being in New Jersey, there is likely a police union requirement to issue the ticket or otherwise face union sanction.

The city attorney will probably drop the ticket but when a driver is at fault and creates an accident it is not surprising they receive a citation just to appease the other people that got hit.

A similar story in the KC Star in the past few days.

A driver has a sneezing attack, crosses into the oncoming lane of traffic and hits another car head-on. The driver was killed and a passenger was left paralyzed.

The sneezer was sentenced to 30 days in jail (suspended) and community service, but of course, faces a substantial civil suit from the victim's family.

so if you ever get in an accident, just say you were sneezing, having a heart attack, or some other ailment and then expect to get off scott free. Sounds like a plan to me!

I have a friend that hit some standing water on the road, hydroplaned, and flipped his car. He got a ticket for wreckless driving.

but the cops will say if he was traveling at a lower rate of speed, he could have avoided the hydroplaning (driver must use appropriate speed for the current conditions of the road)

trust me...i've taken so many defensive driving classes i can quote this cr@p from memory

It would be news if traffic ticket recipients got heart attacks! And poor drivers, and you know who you are, do cause me to reach for the nitro pills!

cops use the "improfacious (sp?) speeding" whenever they want to write a ticket, meaning too fast for the conditions...

Did you attend these classes voluntarily or were they court-ordered?

Just over a week ago an 18-year old boy driving a pickup was involved in two multi-car wrecks along a 2 mile stretch of road, resulting in the death of a 10-year old girl and injuries to himself and others. Word is that he is a Type 1 diabetic and his insulin pump malfunctioned, resulting in hypoglycemic coma.

I don't think any citations have been issued, but victims' families have already filed suit against him AND his parents.

yep...and the key phrase for interpretation is "current road conditions"

you could be going 50 mph in a 65 mph zone and still be ticketed for "speeding" if the cop says that your speed was not appropriate for the "current conditions"

not much you can use to argue your way out of that one
