I just read that girls across the country are now able to register their dress so that a store will not sell the exact same design and color of dress to another student from the same school. How strange! I thought the girl is what made the dress unique not the dress making the girl unique.

Apparently you've never gone to an event with three other gals wearing the same thing Happens all the time here in Alaska. My favorite experience was when 3 of us had on the same gown at one event, and when I recycled it a couple of months later one of the same gals had done the same thing. Taught me never to wear the danged thing twice! Even registration won't help that

But, what if a boy wants the same dress - is that covered? Times have changed, you know.

OK
Stores are even more particular in registering and tracking pageant dresses. My daughter has done pageants and in buying her last dress they asked her what pageant it was for, but it was just for prom. She will use it though in her next pageant.

I'm so glad I'm a man. When I went to prom, I was expected to wear the same tux as half the other guys there... The only accessory being compared was the girl on my arm.

We have it sooooooo much easier :P

PS: And that's before we even mention not having to wear bras, heals, and hose!

Oh sure... rub it in! You also forgot a lot of other things that women must endure... men - for instance!

Bras? Hose? The last formal dance my daughter attended I offered her some of my hose (seeing as how she rarely wears a dress) and she looked at me like I was from outer space! She told me no one wears hose anymore and if you've seen some of the dresses they sell to these girls... bras are almost impossible to wear with them!

My little sister went to prom last weekend. We sent her out the door with no bra, no underware, and no hose. You couldn't fit anything under that dress.

It makes me want my 9 year old to stay 9 forever.

Man, I feel sorry for my child if I ever have a daughter... A dress that you can't wear any underwear with wouldn't even make it through the front door!
It would have to fit over the chastity belt at least! ha ha ha!

The no underwear thing is not exclusive to teenagers. We had a lady (an employee)come to the Christmas party in a dress that she proudly proclaimed to be too snug a fit for underwear. Trust me, I'm sure it was true. Unfortunately, she shouldn't have been wearing a dress that was that snug in the first place!

Which leads to the whole decency and appropriateness issue. Look at Britney or JLo when they're "dressed up" and you don't have to wonder why jeans are considered appropo for going out to dinner!

Yes, but Britney and JLo aren't going to their High School Prom.
Ugh, yes, we have many bad examples from our Christmas parties too. Makes you wonder if everyone even owns a full length mirror!?

She refused to have "panty lines". Even her itty bitty thongs showed throught the thin tight material. I think my mom was about to die.
