Any where but work
I am drawn to post but maybe not for the usual happy reasons one would brag on their children about. My daughter has faced much adversity in the last 2 years and even though she has had many obstacles to overcome she has prevailed. She moved and took a new job (substantial pay cut) so her husband could take a job he had always dreamed about, when there was not enough money she got a second job, husband changed jobs in two weeks and then found another job in a different state (position of a lifetime) didn't keep that job either, marriage deteriorated, went to counseling by herself, made extremely difficult decision to divorce after 1+ year of marriage. She took a new position in same company in different town, could not find a place to live because of housing shortage and suitability; bought an RV to live in. Found temporary housing for her animals. She is so strong but doesn't see it, love her to pieces; what doesn't kill you truly makes you stronger. Heart her determination.

Wow, your daughter has really had some tough times. It sounds like she made the right decision to move on from a guy who was not ready for adulthood. I hope she's not blaming herself for her struggles.

I'd like to brag on my kids and say that they will be doing all the yardwork this weekend for father's day...however, they haven't any year in the past so I don't think they will this year, so I am unable to brag! eek

back home again
My nine-year-old daughter had a stroke at birth and neurologists told us that IF she every walked, her legs would be inflexible and stiff. At 19-months, she toddled across the exam room with a normal gait, much to the amazement of her doctors. My husband and I encourage her to try any physical activity she wants, and so far, we've gone through karate, dance, basketball, tumbling, and swimming. This week, she participated in her first swim meet, and earned a first place in her age group for the breaststroke, her favorite. Look out, 2024 Olympics!

My daughter landed her first teaching job - she will be teaching 2nd grade this coming school year at a local charter school. She is very excited as she has wanted to be a teacher since she was in pre-school.

Thomas - I hope she enjoys teaching as much as my son does. He's starting his sixth year and still loves it.

Congrats to your daughter, Thomas. My sister-in-law taught second grade her entire career at the same school. She taught several generations in the same families. She loved her career.

My son closed on and moved into his new condo 40 minutes from his previous house. This will cut his commute time by about an hour a day. I'm very proud of him for having the ability to sell his house and move to where his new job is located.

He'll be so happy with his new commute (and probably no yard work?!).

Right - going from a half an acre (paid a neighbor to do it) - to no yard work.

My Son was part of a small group of kids (6-8) from his school that won an international science contest to design an experiment that will be done at the south pole this summer. The only other chosen experiment was from Belgium.

according to the teacher it was his idea, too! Very proud of the kid!

It's been a year since my daughter had a fly ball hit her in the face and do major damage to her mouth while playing for her Jr. High Softball team. This years she is finishing out the season as a starter playing center, short and pitcher for JV. She has also been asked to join a summer tournament team for Varsity players next year.

I'm not sure I could have even stepped on the field again but she loves the game.

Brave Girl, cheekEE! Congrats to her.

My son is buying his first home, a condo in Chicago. I'm happy he's finally getting settled down. He's 35 and a newlywed. He spent a lot of time after college enjoying life and traveling, including spending two years in Korea. He really was not ready to settle down at 22, but he is now. I had an 8 and a 6 year old and we were building our second home at his age. It's a three bedroom, and he made his mother happy by saying that they will have a room for us any time we want to visit.

My son graduated from Brown University Sunday. As a kid who a few years ago couldn't organize two straws, i'm proud of him.
