just turned over my keyboard and banged it on the desk...you should see the stuff that fell out...i could feed a small nation for several day just on the crumbs that fell out...and the scary thing is i don't eat at my desk

I am anything but germaphobic (germaphobes dont mud race), but I got in the habit some years ago of taking my own keyboard with if I had to change offices or computers. And it is because of what you just discovered. A keyboard in my "new" office was feeling a little weird when I typed it so I did the tip-n-tap and out came food, fingernails, bugs and some things I couldnt clearly identify.

I was horrified when I checked my headset the other day. Makeup does amazing things.
I now have a whole cleaning set next to my phone & it gets a good scrubbing at least once a week.
This could lead to OCD problems later on I'm sure - but it's worth it.

I managed a branch many years ago with an all female staff. At the time, there was a popular hair stylist in the area that did colored highlights that were all the rage. The women at the branch were walking around with all these strange colors in their hair. One day I picked up the phone and the ear piece looked like someone had beat a rainbow to death with it.

I just started a new job about 2 weeks ago. When I read this post I looked down at the keyboard in my office and noticed it looked - well, it needed the same treatment.
I turned it over and jiggled it a few times.... and about tossed my cookies. I will not describe, as not to offend some. But, GROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I take wipes to my keyboard and phone weekly. I also take a can of compressed air to keyboard every other week. IT won't let me have anymore so I bring my own now! There are a few keyboards I REFUSE to touch around here.
Seriously, how do you type on that daily?

I can tell why ya'll are compliance officers. You all are waaaaaay too concerned about this. I would be much more worried about what is being recycled through the ventilation system...
