This isn't a throwback to my Chicago roots and the days of White Castle burgers. Rather, it's kind of a public service announcement, especially for my fellow female BOLers. Sliders is apparently the newest robbery technique. Those same Chicago roots trained me to lock my car when I pump gas and I'll be making sure the newest driver in our family, my 16 grangirl, does too.

I would think they are fairly close to the same thing - end product-wise.

One of those jokers is gonna get themselves killed doing that. And for what, maybe $20-$100 worth of stuff...if they are lucky. I hate thieves.

Truffie is right...mostly. If one of them screws up and tries to crawl in a car that still has a passenger, say an infant, the driver (or adult passenger) has every right to use deadly force. As much as it would infuriate me, I would not shoot someone over my stuff. I can get more stuff. But I would not hesitate if one of my grandkids was in the car. I doubt anyone is going to enter into a question and answer period when watching someone crawl into the car with a loved one in it. That is kind of my point from before. They are taking a stupid risk for damned little reward. And of course there is that other thing.....Its Wrong!!

Pulling people out of the ditc...

are people really that clueless to notice when a car pulls up next to them at a gas pump when there is no pump there?
This news article should be retitled "clueless dopes get what they deserve."
It's simple: 1. Lock your car every time you exit it 2. Never leave your purse or wallet in your car, even for a second 3. Never leave your car running when you go into a store... 4. be aware of your surroundings 5. don't leave valuables visible in your car - locked or not 6. questions - see #1 above
my favorite article was a local guy who had is Mac, ipad, and cell phone on his front seat, they broke the window and stole it, and he said (i can't make this up) "I thought it was secure because my door was locked."

That's about like leaving said items inside a locked car with a soft top.

4. be aware of your surroundings
I use to teach seminars on how to avoid, rape/assault. This is always point #1!!! Simply being aware of your surroundings (and being obvious about it) is the easiest and safest way to avoid being a victim of most crimes. Pedators are looking for the unaware. So head up, eye contact and good posture (yes, seriously) will likely send them to someone else that is playing with their Eye phone.

Leaving the restaurant last night I happened to glance over at the vehicle parked right next to us to see a purse sitting on the front passenger seat in plain view. I just shook my head and got in the truck.

are people really that clueless to notice when a car pulls up next to them at a gas pump when there is no pump there? The video I saw showed a car pulling up at the pump on the other side. Around here, the pumps are dual sided so you get cars next to each other inbetween the pumps, often facing in opposite directions leaving passenger sides of both vehicles together in the middle. And honestly, using a gun in a gas station would be about the dumbest thing ever, even for a marksman, imho. There's that whole cumbustable liquid thing....
