Sadly our current politcal climate is more about politicians winning the argument and being right than it is about any sort of compromise or getting things done. People on both sides of the aisle would rather stuff get left undone then pass something that isn't 100% to their liking. Heck most of these people don't even look at what their consituants want, they are voting for soley what they believe. Just ridiculous. The fact that people are not working because a few hundred people cant come to some sort of agreement on a darn thing.

JMHO, but i don't see many worthy candidates running, regardless of whether they have been in office 40 years or are running for the first time and say they only want to serve for a short time......so the idea that we just need to get rid of the "career politicians" and fix things by getting people who will only serve for awhile doesn't inspire me.

Seriously though....i think the mess we have in government is just a mirror of what our country is as a whole......we are a country that refuses to compromise; would rather win the political argument than actually DO something that might be productive; and sees anyone who doesn't agree with our brand of politics as more of the enemy than our actual enemies.

You don't see as many qualified political candidates anymore becasue it is all about mudslinging and digging into closets looking for bones to discredit them rather than winning on your qualifications. I am not surprised that good people don't get into politics, who wants little thing you have done in your past brought up and disected by the entire voting public.
Pass, thanks, I will just watch.

well, government employees have been told they may apply for and receive unemployment while furloughed...so, when they get back to work and their backpay is made, do they have to return the unemployment payments? and, since a portion of unemployment is paid by your former employer, the government is paying about 1.4 times the salary for these people...this is so screwed up

Are the folks who issue the unemployment checks working? How so if yes? Because unemployment compensation is a state function, not federal.

.so, when they get back to work and their backpay is made, do they have to return the unemployment payments? probably. The back pay will be reported as having been earned during a period when the person was collecting unemployment benefits. Under most state programs, they would be asked to return the amount of benefits classified as 'overpaid'.

Under most state programs, they would be asked to return the amount of benefits classified as 'overpaid'. "asked" to return it? Such as in a nice fashion? Or have the funds withdrawn or withheld from their backpay to refund it? Or as a line item on a W2 that increases their tax rate?
