Oh my goodness, I was running late for lunch with my friend, and he just called and asked "Where Yat?" Had to post before I left.

Folks in Texas and the rest of the south have never understood the "h" in vehicle is silent.

Living in Texas, I have heard several of these mispronunciations & more! Quite a few people around here shop at "the Walmarts" and are "fixin'a" do something. What really irritates me is when people draw simple words out! Dayown (down) or payunts (pants)...grr!!! This is Texas and we do speak a little slower than most, but come on ya'll! One syllable, not two!!!

I'm bad about using the word "reckon".....don't really even realize i'm doing it. Actually, i think it's a pretty cool word.

Speaking of small towns..... between Victoria and Corpus Christi there is a town called Refugio. Pronounced here as Furio. Here as in near that town? I've seen that name before and always wondered exactly how it's pronounced. yes near that town. Re-few-he-oh is how I pronounced it, but was corrected...told me it was Furio Furio doesn't even fit that spelling! <<<---also says reckon...alot.

Well if you drop the RE and say few he oh, real fast, you can kind of see how it came to be. I am not defending it, just saying I can somewhat see how it came to pass.

Ohio also says My-am-me, so like I said, no one outside Oklahoma pronounces it correctly.

Nobody outside of the state of Oklahoma pronounces Chickasha, Wapanucka, etc. correctly. Excuse me? I live in the land of Mazomanee, Oconomowoc, Minoqua, Prarie du Chien, Shawano and Manitowoc. I'm told I can handle Chickasha, etc., just fine.
