Excuse me?
I live in the land of Mazomanee, Oconomowoc, Minoqua, Prarie du Chien, Shawano and Manitowoc.
I'm told I can handle Chickasha, etc., just fine.

And i'm not saying i could pronounce those correctly..i'm sure i'd scr*w them up royally......people outside of Oklahoma tend to screw our town names up royally.

Pretty much only when they're going thru them....(not that either is worth a special trip). I hear it mostly on TV, say a college football game, when an announcer is trying to announce where a player is from (and then proceeds to mangle the town names).

i'm running to the bathrooms (maybe to get a bowel of soup?)
at lunch i'm runnings to the cars wash

It has gotten to the point where i see them coming and i head the other way...

You could have summed this all up by just saying ekcetera (emphasis on the K).

I think people who have exposure to Indian names can usually handle them no matter what state they're in.

If we're going to tv announcer land, I cringe every time I hear 'overspreading' ex: the storm will be overspreading the area. Really? What happened to plain old spreading over the area? Webster had a fine dictionary. I see no need for the Urban one supplanting it with words made up on the fly.

I hate it when people say "over-exaggerating"...um....since "exaggerate" already means to overstate something, why do we need to add the "over"?

We were college touring this past weekend in New England. Saturday evening, on the drive home, we were listening to a sprts station. The man said Thursdee, Fridee, and today! It just annoyed me that he knew to pronaounce the last one correctly. What happene to the days of the week?

Don't forget about Miami, Oklahoma.

A state trooper will tell you it's pronounced My am uh.

Any other pronunciation will get you a bigger ticket.

What we're really doing here is pronouncing in local dialects.
If you look to the originating language, there's really only one way to pronounce things like Chickasha.
But far be it from me to tell that cop that his My am uh is all wet.
