This 'shutdown' is a farce. Government workers will get back pay, but those who have been furloughed don't have to work. So essentially there getting vacations? The ones who are required to work aren't getting paid.
I guess i should have posted this in the joke thread.

I'm curious if anyone has actually gone to the AHA website and modeled what their cost would be. I don't imagine that most of the people on this site fall into the "poverty level" and likely would have high out of pocket and deductibles.

I did. There are 2 different methods to find out your monthly costs: http://kff.org/interactive/subsidy-calculator/Because your income is more than 4 times the poverty level, you would not qualify for subsidized exchange coverage. The information below is about unsubsidized exchange coverage. Household income in 2014: 512% of poverty level Unsubsidized annual health insurance premium in 2014: $7,637 Maximum % of income you have to pay for the non-tobacco premium, if eligible for a subsidy: None Amount you pay for the premium: $7,637 per year (which equals 7.64% of your household income and covers 100% of the overall premium) You could receive a government tax credit subsidy of up to: $0 (which covers 0% of the overall premium) https://www.healthcare.gov/find-premium-estimates/This allows you to see the different companies in your area offering insurance on the exchange at the 4 levels of Catastrophic, Bronze, Silver, or Gold

This is crazy. I put in zero income (for giggles), got no tax credit (who get's them then?) and it was an outrageous monthly amount.
This does not equate to affordable care.

We do not have data for the state selected. The results will show national averages.
How am I to make a choice when they do not have state data?

This does not equate to affordable care. Ditto. And the least expensive (bronze) had a $5,000 deductible and a $40 co-pay.

First link did not work, filled in info and hit submit, it looped back to a blank form again.
Second link show for teh "gold Plan" the highest plan available in my area would be approximately $1300 a month for me. The Gold plan offers 80% coverage.

well, this is going to make it awfully hard to find a solution Shortly before President Barack Obama was re-elected, he confided to John Podesta, an informal adviser, a vow he was making for his second term: He would never again bargain with Republicans to extend the U.S. debt limit.

Think of all the money and pain we would avoid if only the executive Branch and the Legislative branches of our government were the ones to shut down!

The shutdown is a political stunt, because the reality is it's just an extra vacation days for those that are furloughed.

Agree. Neither party is going to want to be responsible for some sort of "financial catastrophy" and everyone believes that there will be some last minute negotiations to bring forth a resolution. These representatives have said "the next time you do this you will be in big trouble" too many times to respect this government shutdown tactic. At least I hope so!

When the government shut down in 1989(I think that was the year or 1990) I was on vacation. Had a 12 hour layover in Washington DC and went to teh capitol anyway. The guides were there and doing their jobs even though they weren't being paid for it. they knew it was a holiday weekend and folks would be coming so they volunteered to work. REally don't see that happening today.

'Oh, wait a minute, we got this. We got it. Y'all go ahead and take another week off. We'll keep the memorial clean,'" said Cox. Yea, elected government officials, go ahead and take another week off. We got this! :solidarity fist in the air!: If I were there, I'd help this guy. Wonder if I could send him a few $$ to help cover his time and effort?

What caused this Gov't shutdown? This is a budget issue, and not a debt ceiling. This shutdown was caused by a lack of passing of a budget by congress. House Republicans have attempted to pass budgets during the last 6 years and it always gets dropped in the Senate. If they had done their job we would not have to keep funding gov't by resolutions. Now the Democrats are blaming the Republicans for this. I think both parties share some culpability, but there is no doubt that in BHO's admin the Senate has only passed one budget.
The problem plaguing this is that the House and Senate are trying to pass budgets now that are too far apart.
