The Meters (or the Funky Meters in previous incarnations) are a New Orleans based group... and worth listening to. In addition to Dr. John, some of the Neville Brothers (Art, Cyril and Ian, I think) have played with them, and Allan Toussaint once upon a time.

Because no one in hip hop actually knows how to play a musical instrument. This is because musical instruments make music.

It is a crime that Link Wray and Yes are only now being nominated. Real rock and roll should shun this museum the same way Kieth Richards shuns an MBE.

Not Buggs, but I would suggest that without Link Wray, you wouldn't have had Dick Dale, or possibly even surf rock at all. You might not have had groups like Stray Cats. He was a seminal influence on that over-driven, single-line melodic style. Just my opinion.

Exactly right, Mr. S! I would also add the Kinks to that list. So many people don't know it, but Link was as influential to his generation of guitarists as Hendrix was to his. You have probably heard Link's. "Rumble," but never knew it was by him or recorded in the '50s.
IN THE 1950s! Think about it.

And - the E Street Band will be given the Award for Musical Excellence and Beatles manager Brian Epstein and original Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldgham will both receive the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers.
I also think it's a good list. Kinda hard to believe Nirvana started 25 years ago. Time flies....
