Bullying is an act driven by intent. If you make someone do pushups or jumping jacks while blowing a whistle because its all in good fun and we are all going to have a good laugh later...not bullying. If I make you do it because I am bigger or I have an authority (real or percieved) of some kind over you and I make you do it out of fear and to increase my own self worth. Then it is bullying. Bullies do not pick on anyone with an equal chance or ability to resist without consequence. They are the masters of it was just innocent fun and complete denial. They have no spine to stand up and admit what they did. They are cowards. Did I mention that I dont like bullies?

Making a young player do some extra things, ie. carry bags, sing in the cafeteria, buy lunch, etc... are rituals that build acceptance and team chemistry. Really? You have to isolate someone to make him feel accepted? Make him the butt of jokes, do extra stuff? Why can't you simply buy HIM lunch to make him feel part of the team? Why can't YOU sing him a song to make him feel part of the team (or have a cute cheerleader do it)? There is no excuse for hazing, no matter how minor it is.

Have you ever heard me sing?
I get what you are saying but in banking terms "this is the way it has always been done"

I am with TJ-if someone can't see the difference between making a rookie carrying pads and harassing them then there is something missing.

That was a tragic situation. agreed, carrying bags, pads, singing a song or buying lunch shouldn't lead to death

Reports this morning are that one of the Miami coaches was pushing Incognito to try and "toughen up" Martin.

Do you believe those reports? I think it's a smokescreen to cover for Incognito. We'll just have to wait and see how it all pans out.

Look how websters.com defines bully: 1. a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people. 2. Archaic. a man hired to do violence. 3. Obsolete . a pimp; procurer. 4. Obsolete . good friend; good fellow. 5. Obsolete . sweetheart; darling. It's interesting how the term has changed over time!

I believe that the coaches told Incognito to toughen him up, I don't think the coaches expected it to go as far as it did. Incognito took it way past the line. I think the coaches thought that Martin would snap and stand up to Incognito, obviously that didn't happen. But there is no way this is a smoke screen to protect Incognito. After the Saint's punishments, where a Head Coach was suspended for a year and a DC was banned, there is no way anyone is falling on their sword to protect a very average offensive guard with a history of violence and stupid decisions, by saying they ordered the Code Red or whatever you want to call it.
