So the popular sports grill gives free meals to OU football players. NCAA won't be investigating Johnny Football next year, so they may have time to look into this.

Yes, you are right. Other teams have the same problem, though and still graduate more players. OU is ranked near the bottom of the NCAA. smile Even worse than other teams with more players in the NFL.

The NCAA will not be investigating OU. The NCAA has no backbone and no legal authority to do anything. There is pretty much no reason for them to do anything.

What are they supposed to be investigating OU for? Is a disappointing graduation rate against NCAA regulations?

I think hgiii was joking about the free food given out by an OU alum who owns the sports bar Queen Mum's daughter used to work at.

And no, the food wasn't free. It was just a place to go in Bricktown!

I am sure players get free food everywhere. It is not exclusive to OU. The NCAA will find it virtually impossible to police ethics. They can't even get people to admit that JM signed memorabilia for money. Some people actually think he signed 10,000 items for free.

Johnny Football declared for the draft yesterday. Conjecture is he will be in the first 5 to the second round. Who knows, but the big defensive lineman must be salivated at the bounties that will be on his head.

I would be surprised if he goes before round 3. Honestly I don't think he is even deserving of round 3, 4 or 5 but someone will take a shot in there.

Johnny Football will be a top 5 draft pick. The reason why is he adds excitement to the game, so a Jacksonville or someone similar will go after him.

Possible but I would say outside the top 75 is more likely.

The experts were shocked by Johnny's historical knowledge. They assumed he was just partying and not working, but he's the type of guy that'll make plays and wins. How that translates to the next level is hard to say. Then again, how many teams now would have taken Russell Wilson?

The problem with a top 5 draft pick is that for the first contract of a football player, you are getting paid dictated by what pick you are. Johnny has a lot of intangibles that make him attractive to teams, but his tangibles are not that good. I also question his accuracy. He also has a lot of intangibles (family and personal) that make him very unattractive to pay a ton of money to. Many teams need for their first picks to be home runs. Teams cannot afford to pay big money to a complete flop. I think most GMs are betting that JM is a flop and not a success.

I could be wrong. If I were any team I would not touch him.

Your thinking old school. You have a rookie salary cap now. The risks are lower. What do you get in return. Ticket sales and a marketing campaign in Johnny Football. That turns your risk into bigger financial rewards.

I don't think starting JM is going to improve ticket sales. I would actually think it would hurt ticket sales, except for maybe those that want to see him hurt.

Hey, like you said, he could be a top 5 pick. I highly doubt it. But you never know. We can come back to this thread in April and see if you were right. I am sure he is hoping you are. If a team takes him in the top 5 it is a wasted pick.

He will go to the Texans as they need a QB and he will fill the stands in Houston. I would be surprised if they go for Bortles even though he is a safer pick.

I think you are selling Manziel short rED:

http://espn.go.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/81639/top-stats-to-know-manziels-nfl-profile

He completed 73% of his passes from inside of the pocket (best among BCS quarterbacks), overal 65% of his passes were from inside the pocket. He completed 48% of passes thrown 25 yards or longer, way up from his first year and in the top 10 among auto-qualifier quarterbacks.

His 97.0 total QBR and 53% first-down conversion rate in 3rd-down situations leads the nation.

He has had 1.4% of his 864 passess batted down. That is actually below the average of 1.9%.

I don't think the Texans will draft a QB. That pick will be traded for more picks. OBrien is a coach that coached bigger more prototypical QBs, Brady, Cassel, Mallett, Hackenburg etc. and lastly, if I accurately recall, the Texans have a waiting list for season tickets as it is, so the seats are already filled.

There are many teams in the top half of the first round that need QBs. However who those picks will be won't be decided until after the NFL Combine. After the GMs, scouts and coaches have accurate heights and weights, Wonderlic Test scores, and whiteboard and play diagram discussions.

For example, some think Teddy Bridgewater will be the 1st QB taken. But if he comes in at 6' and 200 lbs rather than 6'3" and 220 he might not be.

I think Manziel's biggest obstacle is his size. If he were 6'2, he would be the number 1 QB on the board. But like they say, it only takes one team to take a chance.
