Venting:::

Chime in. Does anyone else out there feel like they are running at full speed and never making any progress?

Not just work; everything. Props to those one man/woman compliance programs (myself). Between work, home, kids, newborn RE business trying to get off the ground; who has the time?

Even when I get to lay down, I have something on my mind or I'm thinking about something that needs to be done.

Maybe it's just HMDA season. I've made a list of my "to do items" and it's daunting. Worse than that though is the ol mind that never stops thinking about things to be done.

Maybe it's the Snowmageddon. Maybe I have SAD

Someone hand me a margarita and plant me on the beach.

Thanks for listening.

Don't worry - you're not alone. There are many compliance professionals that feel the exact same way - me included. Someone asked me recently what fills up my day - and I couldn't answer. I'm constantly fielding one question after another, still working on 2013 HMDA, document requests from our external auditors, etc. I don't feel like I make any progress.

Yes, I would add to this post but due to lack of time...

I feel your pain, I too, am a one person Compliance Department!

It seems like there are never enough days to get everything done.

I feel like I am in a very large hamster wheel, just spinning and spinning!

There's a fair chance that I have a marginal level of ADD.

It seems like between the questions and daily problems that "pop up", that I'm becoming a textbook case.

Jumping from one reg to the next numerous times in an hour and people think I'm speaking in tongues.

Yes, I think we all have had those moments...months....years..when it seems asthough there is no end to it. You are not crazy, you are not alone and yes, this too shall pass. Only to be replaced by some other insanity.
Its not about learning to be sane, its baout learning to like being nuts. smile

I find that ambien removes all my thoughts and takes away all decision-making abilities. Pure bliss. (just kidding...that stuff scares the bejeebers out of me!) eek

Usually I need a vacation by Memorial Day each year. Just a week or something to let the stress go. This year the week prior to the holiday will be spent in a Compliance Audit. cry

Agreed. If I'm mentally and physically exhausted before I go to bed, I'll get a good 3-4 hours of dead-to-the-world sleep before starting it all over again the next day.

After my crazy exam cycle last year (5 exams within 45 days), I wasn't able to take a real vacation since I'm a one-person department as well. I was, however, able to carry over 19 vacation days to this year. grin Yay.

Just curious, if you are overwhelmed with work, home and kids, why would you start an RE business? I can't imagine taking on something like that, unless you are desperate to get out of the compliance business.

Hi GoBucs. It all adds up but that doesn't mean it's not worth it.

I feel like I will always be somewhat overwhelmed with life. I also feel like there won't be any SSI for me when I get older. The RE is a means to retirement in the far off future.

Sometimes you just have to eat the grenade and start on another level.

So you are not working yourself to death trying to afford that sailboat in the picture? grin

I'll give you the same sage advice I gave someone earlier who was complaining of being stressed-out....more bedsheet tango. Nothing relieves stress better, or helps you fall asleep faster. Regs and interest rates will be the last thing on your mind.
