What is the general opinion of ATM pc's needing to be updated with new software after Windows XP is no longer supported in April. Our ATM servicer says they see no reason to and will not be doing any updates to their ATM's(long lengthy letter was sent to us saying their research shows no real need) but our debit card processor say this MUST be done for security reasons. So who is right? What is anyone else hearing on this?

Not a techie, but I'll take a stab at this....Your ATM servicer does not care what operating system your ATM is on, they only care about the hardware. Your debit card processor does care about the operating system because the Microsoft updates that will not be done because Microsoft is no longer supporting XP are security patches and your machines will be vulnerable to hackers and the like.

In addition to that we will be dealing with the EVM technology. Anyone hear of compliance deadline for this?

I am not sure of the exact deadline, but I believe it is no earlier then sometime in 2016. Any new ATMs we are purchasing now will have EVM capability.

If you don't upgrade your ATM's fromn XP, you will not receive security patches which poses a huge risk. We are upgrading ours to Windows & and EMV ready/capable.

Has anyone installed the EMV software? And have there been any issues with the mag-stripe-only cards being read by the new software? We are also considering doing the Windows & EMV upgrades at the same time.

We are doing both upgrades later this month. We're installing EMV readers, but are not enabling them yet because it is still in testing phase for our processor. We'll enable it when it's fully supported.

As to why upgrade to Windows 7, you may want to include your IT Dept. in the discussion if your machines are integrated into your network. I understand this has been an audit point in our internal third-party IT audit.

My frustration has been our ATM vendor did not make the software upgrades to support Windows 7/EMV available until last Fall, and our processor only recently started to support it. When I opened the ticket for the upgrades in January, our processor tried to talk me out of the EMV portion due to the pending ruling on the Durbin routing provisions, which may have some impact on the chip.
