We are a larger Community bank and would like to start performing an HR/payroll audit. Is anyone else doing this? If so is it being done internally or outsourced and is it done annually, monthly, quarterly etc? Just need some ideas to kick around if anyone would be willing to share

Our independent auditors look at payroll annually. Quarterly, we have someone independent of the function review the account reconciliations. They also reconcile the payroll register to the general ledgers to make sure everything agrees.

We only have a couple hundred employees so I have payroll run a list of employees that were paid and I reconcile to a list of employees on staff. Just to make sure that everyone paid is actually still working here.....

The rest of the HR audit can get rather complicated depending on how many employees you have and what you have going on.

We perform a HR/Payroll audit based on our Audit Risk Assessment

We perform separate payroll and HR audits as it is easier to split up since the two departments are comprised of separate individuals (though, of course, some of the tasks are interrelated). Based on our audit risk assessments, they are audited every two years. We do the audits in-house.
