Ditched cable going on 2 years. Basic only. Rediscovered books, nature and my relaxing crafts. We use Netflix and Hulu and they work fine. Got sick of spending over $225+ per month to record shows and then spend 6 hours of the weekend watching them.....or deleting them as we had so much DVR'd.

Ordered my HDTV Antenna yesterday. I may try it out for a week and cancel if I don't miss cable too bad.
It's just a bunch of junk on TV. As long as I can track down Deadliest Catch and Anthony Bourdain (Parts Unknown) I should be okay. I have Chromecast so we'll see how that works.
I muted the TV last night and read a magazine. It was simply blissful.

Satellite tv has a nasty habit of going out when there are storms. Guess what we have lots of in Oklahoma? Guess when some people really would like to see the TV. Yup, during storms.

We bought a "Mohu Leaf Paper-Thin Indoor HDTV Antenna" from Amazon. You should check this out. We can pick up all the local OKC channels when satellite TV is out. We do have the weather radio, but when you are without TV for a long time during bad whether it gets creepy in Oklahoma.

Never had cable TV. Since 2009, I have had a digital antenna. Picks up about 20 English language channels, and a bunch of Spanish language channels. The only time I really missed cable was this past NCAA tournament, when for the first time, they broadcast the national semifinals on cable only.

I got rid of cable a few years ago and never looked back. I miss sports at times, but I can easily watch at bar or friends house. While I miss TWD and GoT, those shows alone don't justify the cost.
The Apple TV and Netflix covers the rest.

Dropped cable and satellite years ago. Now if I hear a show is good I test that online then go buy the DVD/bluray or rent it. We have saved tons and we get to watch Justified any time we want.

For those using Netflix, Hulu+, Amazon Prime, etc. do you still have to sit through commercials?
I love having a DVR and skipping through the commercials but my monthly bill is getting ridiculous, especially since I don't have any premium channels.
There are not that many channels I watch but they seem to put the packages together so you have to get the highest priced package in order to get that one channel...

Does anyone subscribe to MLB.TV? is it worth the $130 It's good if you're a huge fan of baseball in general or follow a team you dont live near. But it has huge blackout areas so most can't really use it as an alternative to cable for your local team.

I like to have TV available and find my DVR to be very handy. It took some doing but I managed to get the cable company to put together services for $100.00 a month. I told them that was my limit....to start with a good internet service, add the DVR (cost me about $20 a month, then whatever TV package they could squeeze in and keep the whole thing at $100.00. I insisted no promotional package prices either--that took an act of congress! But I'm satisfied with where I ended up. I have the basic channels plus a few like FX HIST, AMC etc (love me some Justified), the DVR to catch late night or day time movies that look appealing, plus I also have the $8.00 Netflix subscription so I can watch older series TV in order and without commercials. I'm very happy overall, but I had to argue with the cable company a LOT.

Pulled the plug years ago here too.
I miss sports but that's really it. Not worth the cost to keep on the one off change that a game is on and I have time to watch it.
