We have discovered a Rep. Payee account that has had multiple cash deposits. Is that a common practice? I've always heard that only ssa payments need to go into a rep payee account.

Thank you.

A CU, Where Regs Don't Apply
Only SSA funds should ever go into these accounts, there is very specific guidance on that. The representative designation doesn't give them financial POA, and they aren't supposed to commingle funds. I would advise them to review the rep payee guidance documents, and plan to no longer accept other deposits into the account. (unless it can somehow be proven that the funds are tied back to SSA, but I'd doubt that's the case)

Your concerns are well founded. A fiduciary appointed by VA or SSA has no control over other payments; no other payments should be deposited to these accounts.

Look at the payments going out...there may be a connection.
