How many out there are sending written notification to your customer when a stop payment expires? We have a manual process that is quite time consuming and was wondering what others are doing.

Thank you!

Unless your state has a requirement for such a notice, I think whatever you're doing may be a nice idea from a customer service perspective, but you could eliminate it (unless your customer agreement provides for it).

Read your stop payment order carefully. If you said you would send such a notice revise the language before you stop.

Fascinating practice...never heard of it before and don't expect to hear of it again. Think it through as you eliminate it...e.g. tell people they've received their last notice.

I think making stops permanent makes more sense.

The only problems with making stops permanent are that it can cause longer stop suspects reports and increase monthly service bureau bills if a third-party servicer charges incrementally more for stop records beyond some free allowance.

I like Al Miller's idea. For some reason we've seen an increase in the number of old checks being presented after the stop payment has expired and dropped (has anyone EVER had a customer renew a stop order?)
