I started a new thread so that I would not have to go back and find the thread.

5 chances to prove me wrong. Right now Kieper has Manziel going to Cleveland. Seems like a good fit with their history of picking bad QBs.

I doubt that some people still remember Tebow and in 2 years no one will remember who Johnny Soccer is.

Please, not Cleveland. Watkins or Mack if they're available. Maybe Jake Matthews, but I don't know if he's worth the 4th pick. Would love to see a Matthews in Cleveland again (like his uncle Clay). Jake has the pedigree and the talent. I just don't see Johnny Football as the 4th best player.

I always kind of thought the best strategy would be to trade back/to the future until you just had, like, eight 3rd round picks every year. Just have insane depth and tons of salary cap space to fill in the holes.

But i know if i were an owner I wouldn't have the discipline to do it. I'd get all excited and trade all the next decades first rounders to get Clowney. I'd fall in love with the idea of having twins on the offensive line. Basically, i'd be worse than Jerry jones.

Well I don't speak for everyone but I don't dislike any of the other players. There have been some bad guys (image wise) in college football. In my opinion Johnny Manziel's behavior and image have made him the most unlikable player I can remember.

There is a lot of money on the line. But if I were a GM I would be worried that if we drafted Manziel people would not show up to the games. A lot can be done to improve a players image over time. Could JM improve his image? Sure. But I doubt it.

I imagine someone breaks him in half this year.

one can only improve their image if one was interested in improving their image. Since college football season is over, i don't know that i've heard 2 words about Manziel and his partying...maybe he is laying low, maybe here in SEC country since he no longer will be a factor for LSU they don't care about reporting on him.

if i were a GM, i'd be less concerned about the antics of a 19 year old immature kid that will (hopefully) grow out of it, and more concerned about his ability as a 6'0' 210 lb. QB that i'll be investing millions in and is small and will get creamed by 300 pound goons.

If ATM has him listed as 6'0" 210 than they are stretching the truth.

yeah. forget the image stuff. Tebow was the perfect intangibles guy, but couldn't overcome the football stuff where his (and Manziel's) game dont look suited for the NFL.

Although once you get out of the first round (and maybe just the top part of the first round) the cheap rookie deals make even just a serviceable QB such a value that i think it's worth it to take a shot, even if the guy just has, say, a 15% chance of working out.

Somewhere in the middle
Drew Breese 6'1 209 lbs
Russell Wilson 5'11 206 lbs
Johnny Manziel 6' 209 lbs

I don't like Manziel, but I think size wise, he is better off than many think.

I think he brings a Tebow factor for any team. If you have him on your team and don't start him, soon as your starter begins to falter, or you're not winning, they will start chanting Johnny Johnny...

Well he is going to get drafted, and he is going to play at some point. He comes with too much hype to go low. Even Tebow was a first round pick, even though experts thought him a third or fourth round pick. Look how that turned out. Manziel is more athletic than Tebow in the spectrum of coordination, speed and athleticism. Both have mechanical issues, but Tebow is much larger and much stronger. Drew Breese and Wilson are totally different QBs than Manziel so the comparison is not as good as you would think. Both are past first mobile guys. If Manziel can be coached into thinking pass first his career will be over in his first game.

Tebow main issues were

1) broncos reneged
2) his agent let him sign with the Jets
3) Coaches believe that only quality QBs play in the nfl (wrong)

Three is very true Ed. There are plenty of bad QBs in the NFL.

Mobile QBs are another issue. If the NFL is going to go to the mobile model then they are going to have to pay QBs less. Why? Because you can't afford having 1/8th of your salary cap knocked out.

This is one factor that has contributed to passing QBs ruling the NFL. So now lets say you have 2 mobile QBs who are expected to run and take hits. There goes a 1/4 of your salary cap if both go down. Now what?

Manziel will get bulked up by a team's strength coach, and he is exciting to watch and will sell tickets. I watched Texas A&M just because he was their QB. He plays like like a lot of the scrambler QBs from years ago. Hope he goes in the first round.

But I do agree that the college game is very different than the NFL style of play. .

Tebow had no business being in the NFL as a QB, nevermind being a first round pick.

OK, first I would say he has a pencil neck and putting muscle on a stick is hard to do. But he is young, may not have physically matured yet and could very well fill out. But, ok bulk him up. He will likely loose a lot of speed, coordination and agility. Now you just limited the entire reason he was drafted. If he was a statue do you think anyone would draft someone who does that bad of a job reading defenses?

nope. his main issues are that he's not very accurate and doesn't read defenses well. and dont forget, Bellicheck also let him go after seeing him all preseason. Bellicheck doesn't care what anyone thinks, he would start a goat in a trenchcoat if he thought he'd win more games.
