I was called once, and was excused after the voir dire. The attorneys each briefly summarized the case. The plaintiff had been riding along with his buddy, a pizza delivery boy. They were in an accident that was the delivery boy's fault, and the plaintiff claim a brain injury. The defense attorney said he was going to show that the plaintiff wasn't all that bright before the accident.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
I served once on a jury in Pensacola - was foreman(foreperson) of a 6 member jury consisting of all women. We found that sucka guilty!

Was called to serve her in GA, however one of the witnesses for the prosecution was one of my best friends and when they asked if I would give greater weight to her testimony that others, I responded "well yes" and they excused me.

Wow, I've been called for jury duty many times. And have served twice. I actually do not mind serving.

One trial was quite long and was a home invasion robbery - both the plaintiff and defendant did not speak English as a first language, so it involved the use of interpreters - if you can only imagine!! . . . Question to plaintiff in English then translation to plaintiff in Russian then answer by plaintiff in Russian then translation into English which was then translated into Vietnamese for defendant - this was done for e v e r y question or remark - took about a half hour to get used to the strangeness of it all!

And one of the last jury duty calls I had was for a murder for hire case - extremely interesting! After being in a jury pool of 600 people pared down to 280 the first day, I sat through a week's worth of voir dire - was never called to be questioned as they arrived at a 12 person/3 alternate jury before they got to me. I felt like I'd been on the jury after sitting through so many days! At least I was able to follow that trial closely as it was in the news every day.

One of our IT guys got called a few months ago. We were trying to figure out how we'd rearrange schedules, thinking he'd be out just the one day. TWO WEEKS later, he finally got to come back to work. And it was a child molestation case! He has 4 little ones, and is quite passionate about their safety. I have no idea how he got put on that jury.

I've only been called once. I pled that I had to travel for my work, but would agree in advance to be in "the pool" around Christmas. (No travel.)

Sure enough, I was called at Christmas, only to learn that there are Christmas sales on plea bargains! Neither prosecutors nor defense attorneys want to go to trial at that time. None of the 170 - 200 people in the room ever got empaneled. I just sat their with my laptop and MiFi...

Where the heart is
The last time I was called for Jury Duty, I wound up being dismissed by the judge. When asked how I felt about the standard "Guilt beyond a reasonable doubt", I said that in my line of work I have to file reports on people unless I was convinced of their "innocence beyond a reasonable doubt" but I would try my best not to confuse the two.
