I just heard from a friend that longtime BOLer and one of the compliance greats, Al Miller, passed away Saturday. Don't know any more details at this point, but wanted to share.

Oh no. I'm going to miss his smiling, Santa-esque avatar. Thanks for letting us know Jim.

Oh I'm so sorry...I didn't want to open this when I saw a name I knew in the couch. RIP, Al.

RIP, Al. You will be missed. Although, according to BOL, he was last online last night.

I've received the following - still working to confirm the time:
"His services will be on Sat July 12th at Church of the Valley in Santa Clara. I think the time is 1:30 and will be buried the day before."

Oh I'm so sorry...I didn't want to open this when I saw a name I knew in the couch. RIP, Al. I though the same thing. I'd never met him in person, but he just seemed like a really really nice person that came across the computer screen. Thank you for sharing.

Al was a very nice man. Although I only met him a few times in person you could tell by the warm interactions that he had with others who knew him that he was well liked.

Al was around here for a LONG time. In fact, according to BOL lore, it was he that handed down the internet commandments to Richard Insley - http://www.bankersonline.com/postcard/pictures/insley_stonetab2.gifAs was mentioned earlier, Al was user #13 on BOL. By way of reference, Richard Insley is #5, John Burnett is #8, Andy Zavoina is #9, and I'm #10. All of us migrated over here from the old MoneyPage forums on the first day that Mary Beth opened up shop. For those that want a blast from the past, go to the Internet Wayback Machine at https://archive.org/web/ and type in www.moneypage.com, and go back to the earliest version archived in 1996 and check out the forums there. Very cool stuff from the early days on the cutting edge of technology. You can also go here to see the early days of Bankers' Threads: https://web.archive.org/web/200104081842...;startpoint=280

I don't know why it took me so long to register here. Probably because we didn't have to But I remember that moneypage site. Thanks for the memories. Al was always so helpful and patient with me and all of my banking questions, especially in those early days of my career.

I never monitor this discussion, but just learned that Al is gone. He was a great guy and one of the few "first generation" regulatory compliance specialists still on the job. If memory serves, Al told me that he was on hand to receive his bank's very first copy of brand new Regulation Z in 1969. He saw the challenges and spent the remainder of his long banking career managing the flood of federal regulations in one capacity or another. For six decades (60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s), many many bankers benefited from Al's knowledge and experience. We will miss him greatly.

Thanks for posting that, Cali. So sad, but I will make a donation to one of the charities listed.

Thank you for posting the link - and it is very sad. We've lost a lot of good BOLers since I've been on the website - Don Narup - FBH - Snowbunny - Al (not all inclusive - I know). I feel like I've lost friends even though I never met any of them and only spoke to Don.
