OK, I have my parents 50th anniversary coming up. They "Don't want anything", but if I don't do something my name will be mudd.
They are simple folks, would not want gold or silver. They like to garden (Veggi and Flower) and watch animals on their property (Birds, squirrels, etc).
Any ideas?

I like the photo album idea. That would be something I would treasure forever.
Are you doing a party?

We put an ad in the paper for my parent's anniversary complete with family picture. At the end of the add was their address to send them cards. They were so surprised to have a mailbox full of cards from their friends! Their local newspaper does this sort of thing regularly. (for example - http://www.saukvalley.com/eedition/svm-ss2/) We made them a video montage of old pictures through the years and had it set to music. What about a bench, engraved with the date of their wedding, to put in their yard to watch the animals?

What about getting old home movies or slides converted to DVD or a photo book?

I have seen the "send cards" at the end of these types of announcements b4. My sister took care of the ad, she didn't do that unfortunately. They said absolutely no party. They have a arbor/swing in the back yard for watching the animals, dad only has the one leg, so a bench doesn't work well for him. I like the album idea and the video.

How about a custom made bird feeder?

We had a party for my folks 50th. Not huge, just close friends and evrybody brought a "memory" (picture or a memento of something they had done together). A trail camera might be good if they like to see animals. Good binoculars are always great for watching critters. Good gardening tools and a gardening stool.

What about planting a tree/shrub for them? A living memento that they could watch the birds play in?

perhaps a nice spotting scope or set of binoculars. That way they could get a better view from the swing they have.

A nice bird bath can go a long way. You will probably have to prep it for winter but they can be very nice.

A chia 'pet'. JK. Some pretty birdhouses, feeders and squirrel feeders would be my thoughts, along with a pretty new tree if room permits.

isn't this called "fertilizer?" I suppose if you made it with a hole in it, you could do that while you garden. Kill two birds with a single stone as it were....

What about planting a tree/shrub for them? A living memento that they could watch the birds play in? I like this, plus Joker's idea of the birdhouses, hummingbird feeders, etc. We just got my parents a really nice piece of furniture to replace something they were 'making do' with. They also said no party.

Do they get Birds and Blooms magazine? It's one of my mom's favorites and she's a bird watcher like your parents. This isn't that pricey but it's definitely a gift that keeps on giving. You could give it to them along with a birdhouse. We did this for her parents. Might not be a bad idea.

For my grandparents 50th anniversary, we did a quilt. Every family member made a quilt square (sewing, cross stich, fabric paint, whatever) and then my crafty aunt sewed it together. Even if you don't have someone crafty in the family, I am sure you can find someone local or on Etsy that could do it. Depending on the size of the family this can take some time to organize and complete.

Depending on the size of the family this can take some time to organize and complete. My sister and I did something similar, but it was a photo quilt. Back then it was more difficult to print on fabric. We put together a collage of pictures so that each square representated a person or family. My sister and I each had a square as did our families, then each grandchild, my parents had individual squares and then one together, their parents and family, etc. We ordered sheet sets and strips for the quilt and back were out of sheets and had matching sheets so it could be used on a bed, but you could do one of any size and it could be displayed anywhere - even as a wall hanging. It was the talk of the party!
