Friday night movie night on the couch with my wife, watching old films together after a long week at our respective financial institutions. Back in the early/mid 1970s when we were dating I was grateful to take her out on a Friday night after working at the bank all week.
Funny how much of a stick-in-the-mud, stay-at home couple of geezers we've become after 38 years of marriage.

noelekal, we must be related. Fridays with my guy are one of my most favorite things too. If we don't go to a late afternoon movie, we like to watch Blue Bloods together on Friday night. It's about the only night MOML stays up that late. He's a early bird to my night owl. And you're right. Going out just isn't what it used to be. Could be 'cept we're both night owls here, too much so during the week. I stayed up too late the last two nights reading. We're also deep into a longtime British comedy/BBC period productions habit and will drag out the usual run of Monty Python, Are You Being Served, Good Neighbors (The Good Life) and so forth for an occasional re-watch (we got 'em all). Those are saved for the nights when we're too numb/brain dead to absorb something new.

Read a great quote yesterday from Margaret Lambert, 100 yrs old, married 75 years; she and her husband are German-Jewish immigrants to the U.S.
She said her husband was the best thing to ever be brought into the U.S. (paraphrasing)
My favorite quote I've read in a while.

Any of y'all ever watch "Open All Hours?" We have friends who live in Ryhill, West Yorkshire, only 10 miles west of Doncaster, South Yorkshire where the exterior shots for that series were filmed. We've seen "Arkwright's shop." The village shops in that part of England still have that same feel about them which makes that series particularly charming to us, plus it's funny in a whimsical and witty sort of way that American sit-coms never will achieve.

I miss fireflies. I think I've seen them once since I moved to TX.
Although I loathe cottonwood (violently allergic) so you can burn those down, kthx.

I hadn't seen fire flies for several years but the past couple of years I have been fortunate to have them find a home in my backyard. They have been putting on quite the show this summer. Reminds me of my childhood...trying to catch them in a mason jar.
Definitely need to add to my favorite things list.

We have fireflies. It is funny to watch my dog when he sees them.
