I was, too. Perhaps the title needs changed?

I guess they could be the same thing, but usually I think of a "remix" as taking a song and rearranging it into a dance/electronic song.

If we're going to talk covers, the other day a radio station played a Donnie and Marie cover of Steely Dan's Reeling in the Years. It was so bad, that I couldn't identify the song, even though I knew the words were very familiar. (They played it to punish a caller who had done poorly in a quiz.)

Mani,
What would you consider Johnny Cash's version of NIN's "Hurt", a remix or a cover? It almost seems that to call it a cover, cheapens it. But he filled it with more soul, more angst, more grief than the original, and I loved the original. If that makes sense.

Here's how I define

Remix: a DJ adds techno beats to the original artist's work
Cover: another artist sings a song performed by another singer

If we're talking covers, 311's cover of Love Song is awesome!

If we're talking remixes, I REALLY love The Bloody Beetroots Church of Noise (Diplo Remix).

Would you consider the Philadelphia Orchestra playing Mozart a cover or a remix?

They are playing the piece exactly as it was written, yes?

Neither. It's a performance according to the composer's instructions, like a play or a musical.

I was thinking Johnny's was an "un"mix, since he removed the static, the distorted guitar and echos found in the original. His is a cleaner version (background musically speaking) than Trent Reznor's.

That would still be a cover.

I like Halestorm's cover of "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk more than DP's version.

I'd have to be comfortably numb in order to enjoy that song. Or any other song by Pink Floyd.
