A close friend of mine has a plaque on her wall that says "My home is clean enough to be healthy and messy enough to be happy." I have to repeat this to myself a lot. I'm hardwired to be a perfectionist, but man, it sure sucks the fun right out of life! I'm a Martha trying to be a Mary. Luke 10

One thing I realized when I came back to work after being home with the kids for 6 years was that I had to lower my expectations. My house is not filthy but it's not museum-clean either. My dinners aren't always 5 star but they're delicious and made with love. I'd rather spend time with my kids, hubby, dogs and cats than cook and clean. My house is loud, messy and absolutely perfect for me! Mine is very loud! But I wouldn't trade it for anything. I know people with immaculate homes, perfect meals, but it is not homey, you just don't feel the love.

I should clarify: my home isn't a pig-sty or anything, but i am a single guy living alone...i mean...everything's relative. There might be (ok, who am i kidding...there ARE) a few dirty dishes in my sink right now. I'm shocked! that you use dishes

I use the clean dishes right out of the washer then reload them once they are used up. Saves time putting them away just to drag them back out.

Not in denial at all - just love my furbabies and I'm happier for having them in my life.

Clean is a relative term, and like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder.
As far as I'm concerned, hairballs don't count as dirt provided they are on the floor and under furniture or in an innocuous corner.

I don't see how a stray piece of dog fur is much different than a stray piece of human hair. We all shed, it just looks different.

At least their fur forms 'tumbleweeds' and is easier to pick up.

Speaking of hairballs, I was at Insanity after work and there whas a giant hair/dust/clumpy thing on the floor that was swirling around everytime some little kids ran by it. I didn't have my glasses on and my OCD caused me to focus on the mouse-sized hair/dust/clumpy thing (sometimes they have pubic hair in them! Ever get face to face with a gym floor during burpees? Ugh!!!) Anyway, I was freaking out when it swirled my direction because I didn't want it contacting me.
Back to work....

Back to work.... Becca's living mouse-sized furbee made it all the way across the country? Awesome!!!

I was telling my husband about this thread and he pointed out two others about me: 1) I am adamant that toothpaste be squeezed from the top down. He squeezes it in middle and doesn't always snap the cap shut so the cap gets full of gunk. 2) If we get a 6-pack of beverages that is held together by the plastic rings, I always cut the plastic into small 1" sized pieces so the birds/animals don't get caught in it. I remember watching a video in 2nd grade about pollution and it showed dead birds with those plastic rings around them. There were more, but I think I've shared enough for now.

I can't take the last cookie, or other food item, on the tray because I can't stop thinking how many times it must have been touched before I got there. But for some reason the 2nd to last cookie is just fine.

I can't just dig into a potluck supper without knowing WHO cooked something. (But i don't think that's quirky...i think it's smart.)
