It's okay...when you get ready again...practice again. One day practice will make perfect! smile

Really and truly speaking - it was about a year-long fight from the first time I quit, until I actually managed to do it. But like Joker said, practice will make perfect - just gotta keep at it.

Have you considered using nasal snuff? Plenty of nicotine with practically no ill side effects (not counting brown boogers, of course).

I'm needing to open this thread back up....my doctor says i need to quit (related to my health concerns i have posted about previously). 44 year bad habit, but it definitely has a hold on me. Part of me thinks this is a bad idea (this post) because i'm opening myself up to scrutiny if i post over time "nope, still haven't quit" etc. .....but another part hopes it will actually help. I really "enjoy" dipping....it's not like something i need but hate, if that makes sense......so i know it's going to be really difficult. I'm hoping by opening this thread up, i will creative some sort of subconscious (or conscious...whatever it is) accountability to quit.

There's a ritual to dipping or smoking. It becomes part of your identity and that makes the habit more difficult to break. I know OK has some decent nicotine cessation resources in the form of free patches and gum to help with the physical dependency. I recommend taking advantage of those. Have you tried the non-nicotine products that are supposed to help replace the ritual of dipping/smoking? I think there are non-nicotine pouches you can dip. You might also consider some alternative medicine like acupuncture or hypnosis?
I wish you luck! It's a hard road for anyone trying to quit.

We've all got that once vice that we just can't seem to quit mine happens to be ice cream right now lol. I did successfully quit smoking about 18 years ago and it was a mind over matter thing for me. I didn't do any of the helpful products (patches, gum etc). I gradually cut down the number of cigarettes each day by one....there were times it was not easy and it probably took longer than some but I did it my way.
After I quit for the longest time I drove around with the remaining cigarettes in my car....a number of times I held one when I was stuck in traffic or stressed out but didn't light it.....You got this!

Thanks guys. I'm basically on Day 1 of this, and i know cold turkey isn't gonna happen today.....so my plan today is to cut out one of my daily dips (the 3:00 o'clock one). I think i'll stick with that routine for as many days as it takes until i feel like i can cut out another one.....hopefully, that leads to day whatever when i'm cutting out the only remaining dip of the day.

My mother is smoke free for a little over three years now, but it wasn't easy because she's retired, lives by herself, and doesn't drive (perhaps the last one made it easier from a control aspect). I used nicotine patches but doubled the time period for each stage. I believe each stage is 2 weeks, so she was doing four weeks and was done after three months. Also, I've heard it takes thirty days to create a habit, so what I did with her may have played to that, but it's something for you to keep in mind as well with anything you try. Good luck.

Thank you Paul and Lurka....Paul, i am very much a person of routines and habits, so i like the "it takes thirty days to create a habit" line...i think thinking about that will be very useful for me. Lurka, i have already ordered two books that my doctor wanted me to read (something like "My Pleasure Trap" and "The Power Of Now".....the one you mention sounds interesting as well, so i'll keep it in mind.
