Dear sweet HMDA...
Applicants applied for a Home Improvement loan secured by their dwelling. They exercised their right to rescind the transaction post closing and chose to use a CD as collateral instead.

Does this go on the LAR as one origination? We made the loan just with different collateral.

Or do we report one origination (CD secured) and one approved but not accepted (dwelling secured)?

2 different entries:
The loan that was rescinded is Code 2 - approved, but not accepted.
The CD secured loan is recorded as Code 1 (originated), IF you report HI loan that are non-dwelling secured, but classified as HI loans.
