So, apparently the NFL is now asking musicl acts to pay THEM to perform at the superbowl halftime show.

This is a bit of a struggle for me. My usual Anti-Roger Goodell stance is pitted against my Pro-Disrespect-Coldplay stance.

you forgot that they also want a portion of ticket sales for shows immediately following the superbowl as that exposure on the superbowl helped them sell more tickets...

The usual acts are already selling out arenas. they dont need the help. You cant invite them AND charge them and call it an honor.

I hope Goodell goes full capitalism and auctions off the spot. And then some boy band flavor of the month buys it. And then another network books, say, Rhiana, Foo Fighters and Katy Perry to perform a 20 minute set against it. And everyone switches over.

And then Roger Goodell cries and his sorrow nourishes me.

Onion article "Browns Impressed By Johnny Manziel's Chemistry With Bench"

Pettine - "You can tell there's a genuine sense of trust and a truly unspoken bond between the two. It's a very natural relationship and we're very excited to see how it grows, so far they've been practically inseparable"

There are tickets available online for the Rams opener against the Vikings for $18. Who knows? This is how Kurt Warner got his chance. Austin Davis, this is your lucky day.

okay, heard yesterday that the owner of the Carolina Panthers is under a 6-week "no contact with the team" order because he pled guilty to DUI...huh? how is this an NFL issue? why are they interjecting themselves in a personal matter? he should have just beat his wife/girlfriend, then he would only have a 2-week ban.

professional sports leagues are getting so PC it is stupid.

after week 1 there is only one team in the AFC east in last place and it is not the jets (for a change).

I think such behavior violates the NFL Code of Conduct (not sure if that's what they call it or not)

Oh and the domestic abuse rule as changed as well:

I thought I heard a third offense would result in a lifetime ban, but not sure on that.

I am sure that it would violate the code of conduct. Unfortunately use of PEDs, playing with a concussion/broken bones and abuse of Rookies do not violate it.

Was that story referencing the Colts owner, or did the Panthers owner also get busted for DWI?

Is this in direct response to the Ray Rice video released today?

What was Michael Vick's punishment from the league? I really don't remember but it seems like it was much more harsh.

It would have been difficult for Vick to play as he was in jail. The punishment was so the team could have an out on paying him.

From Wiki:
In August 2007, hours after Vick pleaded guilty to federal charges in the Bad Newz Kennels dog fighting investigation, the NFL suspended him indefinitely without pay for violating its player conduct policy.

How is fighting dogs (and gambling) a worse offense than punching your fiance in a hotel elevator, knocking her unconscious and dragging her into the hallway?

The letter from Roger Goodell was sent in August, so if this Ray Rice video was released today, then no.

Not a better question but an excellent one at that!!!
I just think the league (including NBA) needs to be more consistent in their punishments. Are they going to act before criminal charges or wait until charges are filed? Is there a formal hierarchy of what offenses receive what suspensions? Seems to me it's all over the map.

the point i'm trying to make is that why does the NFL bother with anything that is non-related to the game? if i get a DUI, my employer isn't going to fine or suspend me, unless it happened during work hours and i'm on the clock...and maybe not even then. just seems like a broad over-reach on their part

Former NFL offensive lineman LeCharles Bentley:
Ray Rice, at a loss for words. If anybody believes that's the FIRST time he's hit a woman, I got an ocean in AZ I'd like to sell you #Coward

Well after the news on Phoenix flooding he may have an ocean to sell in AZ.
