But then you have to remember to look at your personal emails at home. That sucks after reading emails all day long.

Based on their less than stellar performance in the past 2 weeks against unranked non-conference opponents, ESPN is already counting the Big 10 out of the playoff championship series (or whatever it is called this week) and no chance at a title shot.
ouch...

ouch... Well, I grew up in Big Ten Country and I am still a fan. Gotta admit that pretty much the whole conference looked weak. The two big dogs, OSU and MSU, looked bad against quality opponents. Michigan got embarrassed by ND, Nebraska struggled, PSU had trouble putting away Akron, Purdue lost to a MAC team, etc, etc. I don't know that none of the Big Ten teams will make the 4 team playoff, but right now I don't see any one of them as being a top 4 team.

As long as they're in no danger of winning a lot, getting into a bowl game, winning the bowl game, and causing media headaches and social criticism of the NCAA, then, yeah, the NCAA will lift the sanctions.

I tell ya, i'm shocked that the SEC has 8 teams ranked. I mean, who knew that the media, led by ESPN, would rank so many SEC teams?

it was the AP poll, not ESPN. Coaches and Sagarin also have 8 SEC teams ranked...does ESPN carry that much weight? who knew they were so powerful?

What's more impressive is the SEC West. That is the best conference in football. I don't think the SEC East is very strong, I'd put them about par with some of the other conferences (I mean really - Missouri got rolled by Indiana).
But the West - they have what, 6 out of 7 teams ranked? The only problem is them beating each other up. But at least one of those teams will make the playoff and probably be favored to win the whole thing.

I agree that the SEC West doesn't appear to have a bad team in it. Not sure they have a 'great' team in it either, but time will tell. SEC East is getting too much credit. At the end of the day though, there isn't a trophy handed out at the end of the year for "best conference"; there's just a national championship trophy handed out to a SCHOOL, and that's what we all as fans are hoping our TEAM gets.

Haha. The "2nd best" team in the SEC West (supposedly, according to the rankings) was lucky as the day is long to beat a Big 12 team that is projected to finish 3rd-5th in their conference. Yes, they won, but it doesn't exactly stoke fear in my heart about how strong the West is.

But what are the "great" teams this year? FSU looks vulnerable, no one from the Big Ten looks great, and I can't really speak of the Big 12 or others because I haven't seen any of them play. Oregon may be strong, they piled up a bunch of points aganst MSU, which normally has a tough D. But Oregon also tends to stumble at some point in the season against another Pac team.
Is there a team out there just steamrolling everybody who looks like the runaway favorite?
This might be the best year to have a playoff.

Agreed on the playoff. It's probably too early to deem any team a juggernaut; i think my Sooners look as good or better than any team in the country so far though.....but looking good thru September doesn't really do anything for you.

This weekend should start shaking things up in the SEC West. Mississippi State will hopefully lose.
