A Grant Wood painting.
Like many in BOL, I am not as I appear. As much as I would like to smack my tellers between their little close-set eyes with reg C, I do not. I would thoroughly enjoy whacking my lenders about their pointy little heads w/ reg B, but will not. It is understood that this is a widely held desire.

I get a great deal of support from my president and board and for that I am thankful. I honestly feel for those that are on their own when it comes to enforcing compliance. If there was any way I could help, I would do so.

I have had a lot of experience in getting what I want. Maybe that is all luck. Or maybe I am the mean SOB that I claim to be.

We native Iowans have a mean streak!

We often just know how to control it!

I grew up (that is open to debate) in Minnesota. (Think Fargo by the Cohen brothers.) Wood chipper?

Ohhhhhhhhh, a native Minnesohhtan, eh? I married a native Minnesohhtan....I understand.

You'd think that with Dairy Queen right there in Windom, Minnesohhtans wouldn't be so mean!

It is not so much mean as cold. In the land of compliance, insensitivity is a wonderful quality.

You may think you have their support, but what you really have is their tolerance. Are you really part of the inner circle, or are you actually out of the circle and just don't realize this.

No bank executive who came up on the funding, investment or lending side of the business is going to truly look at compliance as an integral part of the business, because you're not making real earnings. You're tolerated because your role is to just keep them (examiners) off the back of the executives.

Enjoy the ride 'til the tires wear, avoid potholes, and watch out for the dreaded unexpected nail.
