Thank you. She has an 18 year old daughter who just left for college this fall and a 14 year old son who just started high school. She also was just remarried about 2 years ago, so they were still kind of newlyweds.

Not to mention her mom, who was like a second mom to me in junior high and high school (when you can really use one!). An amazing woman who now has to deal with the loss of a child....

I lost my dad just after I gave him his first grandchild. My brother was the age of your friend's daughter.
It's never easy.
But you're right that it makes you appreciate what you have.
In time, it will be easier to appreciate what you had with her too.
