Turkey, ham, both, other?

Also, do you celebrate Thanksgiving at dinner time or is it a Thanksgiving lunch?

We always do turkey and it's dinner (eat around 6pm).

The This or That thread is over there >>>>>>

And the answer is only Turkey. And since we live within driving distance of both families it will be lunch and dinner both and left overs all next week.

We do both turkey and ham. Usually plan to eat around 2:00, which inevitably turns into 3:00

Turkey before football games start. Then we can eat during and after the games. And fit naps in as needed.

We will have turkey, and probably eat around 4.

After years of hosting a bunch of family members, we'll only have 5 of us this year. The family has all splintered off as kids have grown and have families of their own.

However, one of the five will be my son's girlfriend from Mexico City, who is really exited about having a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner, and wants my wife to teach her how to cook it.

I concur. And since it is scientifically proven (by majority opinion) to be the correct answer, we also like to sit around and make fun of all the turkey-deniers. It provides hours of entertainment.

wink

laugh

(Oh, and TG#1 is dinner around 6 on Thursday, and TG#2 is lunch-ish intended for 2, but usually more like 3:30, on Saturday. You are more than welcome, just bring a side and make absolutely sure you do not cross in front of the TV at any point while the game is on)

for every site you find saying it is turkey, you can find one saying it isn't...and vice versa. and what better or isn't cause it. is it traditional or industry made. naturally occurring. because of the capitalism. blah blah blah...

Turkey and Ham......Usually served by and eaten at 2:00, snack at 3:00, dessert at 3:30, seconds at 5:00, 2nd round of desserts at 5:30, then hit the Pepto Bismol and Rolaids wide open starting at around 6:00. Leftovers then become breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the next week. Then by the time next Thursday rolls around I'm ready to swear off ever eating turkey or ham again......then comes Christmas and I break my oath. (There is no differentiation between the Thanksgiving meal and the Christmas meal at my place). Oh well.

This year, we're doing steaks and salmon on the grill. It's just me, my wife, and the kids. The only meat my wife eats is fish, and the kids aren't big fans of turkey. We always end up throwing a bunch out.

So we decided to get something we all like. First time I can remember in my life I won't have turkey for Thanksgiving.

My husband is having outpatient surgery two days before Thanksgiving and it will just be the two of us anyway - and we've decided on lasagna.

If I'm cooking this year, it will most likely be lasagna. If we go to the grandkids...it would be traditional.

Chances are I'll cook and we'll go see the kiddo the next day. smile

We usually fry a turkey, and depending on how many people are coming we might also bake or smoke a ham. Schedule works out almost identical to burkemi's.

Usually it's turkey around here. Very traditional. I've sucessfully lobbied to move it to dinner instead of some weird in between lunch and dinner time.

This year however we're grilling steaks. So Christmas will be a turkey and a ham!

turkey, we usually also have a ham, and if we're lucky, someone brings some venison as well. we've also had turducken on occassions. and boudin, too.

with an average Thanksgiving attendance of 40+ people, we have many options

Turkey for Thanksgiving - servingtime changes based on my mother's work schedule (nurse). This year we plan to eat dinner at 4:00
Appetizers will take up the rest of the early afternoon
Pastry takes up the evening

I just found out we're doing 3 Thanksgivings this year. eek

Wednesday evening dinner at FIL's house - most likely grilled salmon steaks

Thursday "lunch" at hubby's cousin's house with MIL (his parents are divorced)

Thursday dinner (the whole turkey feast) at my brother's.

Oy.

I should start fasting now...

a common misconception, and one you should avoid. If you start fasting your stomach shrinks and limits the amount of food you will be able to comfortably imbibe. To fully prepare yourself, you should start eating larger meals at a greater frequency, to make sure your stomach is used to expansion. Also drink a lot of water, at least a gallon per day. Perhaps ne meal a day should also be eaten at a local establishment offering "all you can eat" buffets...
